"A LETTER
FROM LARRY"
Dear Harold,
Through the years that I pub-
lished the Hellcat News there was
on occasion "A Letter from
HARRY." Now it's your turn to
receive a letter from Larry.
First of all Jan and 1 want to
congratulate you on the very
colorful Christmas issue of the
Hellcat News. It was a well pre-
pared issue in content and layout
and showed a fresh approach
which is good for any organiza-
tion. We are very proud of the
job you are doing as executive
secretary of this association. I
think we feel the same way today
as Len Dooley might have felt
about nine years ago when I as-
sumed the full duties of the secret-
ary's office.
We had a very happy heart-
warming Christmas and what
made it so were the hundreds of
cards we received from many of
our Hellcat friends who still re-
membered us with their good
wishes and kind words of apprec-
iation for our past efforts. We
would like to take this opportunity
to thank them all from the bottom
of our hearts and to wish them
every happiness and good health
for the coming year.
Jan and I have been enjoying
our present retirement but we do
miss the many letters we received
from all over the country. Even
our mailman misses it. His bag is
so much lighter and he has lost
his most lucrative stop in "post-
age due." People ask us what we
are doing with our spare time.
Well, we've discovered there are
still a few good programs on T.V.,
good books are still being publish-
ed and there a lot of good person-
al friends who we had neglected.
I've been pursuing a few of my
favorite hobbies such as stamp
collecting, model railroading and
Janet. (Not necessarily in that
order.)
We hope to see many of you in
Detroit for the 21 st reunion. The
reunion committee has been work-
ing very hard and it is always
gratifying to the committee mem-
bers to experience a good turnout.
It is really their sole reward for
all the time and effort they put
into these reunions. Being Det-
roiters ourselves we can assure
you that there is much to see and
do here. The Statler Hilton hotel
which has been chosen as the re-
union site couldn't be more cent-
rally located for downtown con-

mouth, Illinois. (EDITORS NOTE: We would like to make "Family
Portrait" a monthly feature in our paper. We however need family
portraits.)
17th AID News
Usually 1 begin my monthly
report, by saying I have little to
write about because the mail man
brought so few letters. This
month I feel like the fellow who
hit the jackpot. Believe me, I do
appreciate the time you people
have taken to write.
Milford Meyer (B) Co. from
Tililen, Nebraska, sent me names
and addresses of I 5 fellows in his
general area to contact. I recog-
nize only on, John Speedy but will
go to work on all of them. Thanks
veniencea. The city is literally
laced with expressways to speed
you to any points of interest.
As we go into the New Year
let us resolve to support this fine
organization and it dedicated off-
icers to the best of our ability in
any way that we are able to —
be it a letter to the Hellcat News,
forwarding the address of a pot-
ential member or bringing about
the return of a former member or
in any capacity that will enable
the association to carry on. The
life of any organization is only
prolonged by the nourishment it
receives through it's members.
Sincerely,
Larry
Milford.
Have a nice letter from John
Simpson who was S-l for the 17th.
fohn, also sent me names of form-
er I 2th men to get in touch with.
He and our former Bn. Comdr.,
Major Cunningham live in Alab-
ama and have offered to help
build up our membership.
If the two of them can do as
well for the 12th as Bear Bryant
does for the University of Alab-
ama football squad, we'll do OK.
Thanks for the help John.
Tom and Nola Ekeart (A) Co.
wrote that their son Dick, who at-
tended many reunions with them,
had gotten married last year. Dick
is going to college in Peoria, 111.
Oh yes, they mentioned they are
to become grandparents this year.
Feel any older, Tom.
I do want to take this opport-
unity to thank all of you, who
wrote messages with your Christ-
mas greetings.
For those of you who will at-
tend the Midwest outing this
month in Illinois, have a good
time and thanks to all for your
help with buiding up our mem-
bership.
Till next month
