495 TH AFABN
UNIT REP REPORT
HI FOLKS. . .
Well here we are, the last
issue before re-union time. And
as we said so many times in
the past, time sure flies by. . .
Going through most of the let-
ters, I would like to jot down
all the names of people who
plan to attend the reunion:—

Fred Erichsen, Dave Sloop,
Walt Hardin, Elmo Kostal, -
Gene Degliantoni, Clint Seitz,
Norm Clark, Phil Mauger, Don
Sears, Dean Strubbe, Bob Lep-
-T'Ohn E. Owen. Art Worth -
ley, Gerry Mullen, Vern Op-

Truly. To add to the list here
are more that are going to do
their darndest to make it also.

land Adair, Hal Gordon, Lou

din and Andy Petty. If I miss-
ed anyone, please excuse. Come
down to Louisville and chew
me out real good. Or jus t
come down and join the rest
of your buddies, 495th will be
well represented. . .It has been
a quiet month, with the warm
weather around our news has
slowed down some. Well this is
the time for vacations, recrea-
tion, picnicing, painting and
decorating the ole homestead
and oh yeah, we still have to
work for a living. But if you
guys find a few moments to
spare, don't hesitate, drop
your unit rep a few lines of
news. We still have anniver-
saries, birthdays and grad-
uations, etc. While I'm on the
subject, might as well wish A
Happy Birthday to the Mielniks
who are celebrating in the
month of July, Bob 9, Joey 8
and dear old dad at 42 . . .
The Jack Zapfs' are all fine
in Menlo Park, Calif. We re-
alize your ambition to make
one of the future reunions Jack
- so stay with us and maybe
in the near future there may
be one closer to home. Jack
sends his best to all his
friends. . . John and Max-
ine Owen and the children are
heading out west on a camp-
ing trip, hope you make it to
Chester, S.D. You can't miss
it. John will be back in time
to see us in Louisville, so we
should get the whole 1 o w
down in Louisville . . . Fred
Erichsen had a pleasant sur-
prise, a visit from none oth-
er than our wire cpl. Dick
Puckey. Dick at the present
is with a construction company
in Schenectady, N. Y. The
best part of it all was that I
got a call from Ev Erichsen,
and had the opportunity to talk
to Fred and to Dick. Natural-
ly he asked about all the guys.
We said about as much as we
possible could. With a little
lecturing from Fred and my-
self, I believe Dick will be a
future member in a short
while. Also would like to re-
lay Dick's regards to all his
friends and to the association.
... We still have a contin-
uance of "It Happened At
Camp Barkley", many of the
names that are mentioned are
fellows who still do not be-
long to the association. If any
of their whereabouts are known,
drop ^hem a few lines or send
me their address . . . Do you
remem'ber when Joe Slobuszew-
ski sigged his pet armadillo
on the officers hut . . . Roy
Danklefsen was voted the most
popular man in Sv. Btry . . .
The 495th show "By The Num-
bers" hit a new high in G.I.
entertainment featuring Katz
Lilliard, Eldredge, Hurst, Cook
- Poucher, Minor, Halligan, Ut-
ley, Orowder, DeMeo, Chap-
man and officers Cols. Millice
and Bahr, Majors Payne and
Hockman and Capt. Cunning-
ham . . . Marjorie Lord, who
played the feminine lead op-
posite James Cagney in "John-
ny Come Lately", toured the
battalion area with Col. Bah-
ras her escort . . . "Buss-el"
Broaddus got to be known
as "Jimmy Lynch' after put-
ting his second tank in the
Battalion Hospital . . . .Carl
Dezern tied the knot on his
furlough . . . Pvt. Schact
returned from furlough on time
. . . Glenn "Smokey" Stov-
er gave up in his attempt
to grow a mustache . . .Bob
Friend was so excited about
being best man at Ken Wald-
ecki's wedding that he almost
forgot the wedding ring . . .
S/Sgt. John Davis was the
only 495th participant in the
12th A.D. Rodeo and won third
place . . . That's it for now
and we sure hope that these
little bits stir up and bring
back some pleasant memories.
There's more coming up. . .
In the meantime any one go-
ing to the reunion, can pick
up a little" prize of some
sort and donate it for our door
prizes. It makes our meetings
a little more fun and enjoy-
able for the wives and kids. . .
For now, Be Good, Take Care
and God Bless You All. See
you Next Month.

56TH AIB UNIT
REP REPORT
This has been a wonderful
month for me both as a farm-
er and as a unit rep. I've been
able to get in all my crops and
crops and the fellows have
been real good about writing
the fellows have been real
good about writing a line or
two.
I received a letter from a
brand new member of one
month, Orlando Speranzini of
Derby, Conn. He writes that
he has been married to a won-
derful woman for 22 years who
answers to the name of Rose.
They have one daughter Linda
age 11. Orlando is a toolmaker
by trade. He says he can'it
make the reunion this year
but hopes to make it n e x t
year. We hope so too, Orlando.
The old mess sgt. Herman
Lochner came through with a
letter saying all is fine in Cal-
ifornia and that he is working
with a Sgt. Nay who used 'to
be in the 495th AFA. Likely
some of you 495th men re-
member him .The Loehners
are planning on making the re-
union this year and Herman
hopes to see plenty of "B"
Co. fellows there.
A1 Tirado writes that he and
his old buddy Orlando got to-
gether awhile back and he says
they were like a couple of old
women yakking about o 1 d
times. A1 didn't mention being
at the reunion but we sure
hope he makes it.
Well fellows keep working
on your buddies to join the
association. The more the mer-
rier. See you in Louisville!

66TH AIB REPORT
So sorry to have missed get-
ting our report in on t i m e
last month. Will have to try
to get it in earlier from now
on so it won't be too late to
be published.
Heard from Joe Palmieri a
•few weeks ago and Joe will be
in the hospital a while but is
still hoping to be out in time
to make the trip to Kentucky
in July. Says he's pretty sure
he will make it, especially if
his wife has anything to say
about it. Joe and Ruth and
Dale and Kay Matheny are
planning a week-end at the Tol-
edo Zoo along with friends, the
John Rossi family real soon.
Hope they all have a fine
time.
Also a nice letter from. Floyd
Cheatum. Floyd noticed in the
last issue the note from the
fellow in the wheel chair and
here is a quote from his let-
ter. "Don't really have much
news but do intend to make
the Louisville reunion. Saw
the article about the fellow
in the wheel chair and would
like to say to him not to let
that stop him from c :ming to
the reunions. I gave attending
my first one quite a bit of
thought but not any more. We
bowl twice a week and one
year made a trip to California
and back by car. Found out
that there was nothing to it.
In fact would like to see every
fellow who might be under such
a handicap to show up. I'm
sure they'll all enjoy it and
be back each and every year.
Just make one reunion and
you'll »ee."
Floyd says that they have
some good slides of the last
reunion and hopes to bring
them along. Also again we
would like to have everyone
bring along all their pictures,
even the old ones, as they
always make for interest i n g
times.

you know that all is well at
