Hello Folks,
What a great way to start a column and 1992. No word that
any of our buddies have been called from our midst. I am
indeed thankful.
Want to start 92 off in the right say—so the first item of
business is to RESUBMIT the attendance list from the Omaha
Reunion. Did turn in this list right after the Omaha get
together—and to me it is a very important part of the past
reunion. This is how the 43rd signed in. Ralph and Mildred

Luther Bennett (A) writes—Hope you can read this, started
on the typewriter but the ribbon is worn out. Got home the
other day and found your note. I was surprised and damned
sorry I wasn't home. We could have at least had something to
eat and drink, "maybe a couple." How did you like Oregon? I
have a lot of friends there, and am an honorary member of the
Willamette Chapter of Ex-P.O.W's. Portland is where I've had
my heart surgery. Wish I could have shown you around some.
Idaho is beautiful this time of year, especially if you want to
look at things God has made for men's enjoyment. Sounds crazy
coming from me, but that's the great pleasure of my life, just
looking. Winter is coming on fast now and soon a blanket of
snow will cover everything. Wish I could go to Florida but that's
out for now, maybe after Xmas.
Would like to discuss a last bottle for the 43rd with you for
the year 2000. What do you think? Reckon any of us will be left
by then? Would like to drink with the old boys that year or at
least let them drink on me. Let me know what you think of the
idea, and I'll send the money for a jug of 100 proof Old Grand
Dad.
Luther also located a couple more names of prospective
members and he sent the dough to boost them in as members.
Sorry, Luther, you only get one this time. The fellow from the
43rd is already a member and we're checking on the guy from
the 66th, it looks like you found one.

Harley Wherry, all of Co. D.
We hope those hospital tests turned out A-okay. Lou signed
off, Your Old Buddy, Lou—Note/ Started commenting too
quickly. We did knock on Lou's door as we came through
Burley, Id. Lou must have been off on one of his fishing trips so
we just continued down the road.
LAST BOTTLE—I hope we get some feed back from a num-
ber of the guys on this. We aren't trying to jump the gun—just
want to have something in place for later on. A toast at any
gathering wouldn't be out of line. Give us your opinions on this.
Ray Einsiedel (S) writes—Hi, Just a line to let you know we
are still able to take nourishment. We are now located in a
"Deep Freeze," and I suppose you are too. It's really too early
for this type of weather. It seems just like yesterday we were
sitting outside in lawnchairs. The summers are too short.
I don't remember if I told you in my last letter I finally got my
dentures. After being without teeth for four months it was
really an adventure. I was ready to put them in the medicine
chest and forget I ever saw them. Then after reasoning about
the cost of them I stuck with 'em, and am finally getting used to
them. My advice to everyone is to take care of what teeth you
have, as dentures are not the same as your own, and that's for
sure. We have a woman across the street from us, who is
divorced. She now says I am handsome, and look ten years
younger. If course, this went over like a lead balloon with my
wife.
We are sorry we didn't make the reunion. We're still paying
off the Oral Surgeon and the dentist who made the plates.
Something I don't understand is why Medicare doesn't cover
the cost of dentures or eye glasses. After all, this is what people
our age are really in need of.
We'll try to make the Louisville reunion. Take care, Ginny
and Ray. Note/You're right, Ray, it does pay to take care of
what the Good Lord gives us, and Ray, watch out for that lead
balloon Ginny may let you have. Ginny, that was a nice write up
in "Kitten Tracks." I'd like to encourage all our Ladies to write
their stories up.
Bill Riddell (C) writes—Thanks for sending along the cheese
knife which we couldn't find at the end of the reunion. When we
were in Monroe, Wis., this past weekend getting cheese, we
had some sent to you to sample, some mild, some aged. We
have been getting cheese from Baumgartners for over 40 years,
and we enjoy sharing some of that Wisconsin know-how in
cheese making.
After we left Omaha we visited with relatives in Missouri, old
friends in Kansas City (where we used to live), my sister in
Kansas, and went down to Dallas to see our four month-old
great-granddaughter for the first time. Naturally, she is a
darling little thing. Thanks for everything. Very Best Wishes,
Bill and Pat—Note/Bette and I have always enjoyed the
friendly state of Wisconsin, we have often visited the Monroe
area, and we sure enjoyed that cheese. Thanks much.
Harry Yager (D) writes—Dear Stoney, I decided to send you
a couple of pictures taken on our recent visit to the "Hogans."
Please note what we are drinking. Quite a change, wouldn't you
agree? We—are all planning, Hogan and Bev—Orville and
Rosemary Jones—Harry and Vella Yager—to try to make the
Louisville reunion. Sincerely, Harry Yager—Note/Harry, we're
