ALL.
Welcome to all of you. The news from the field has been
sparse, so I thought I would write about where I see our
future for the Hellcat News, reunions and legacy members.
The Hellcat News is our biggest expense, and we are
trying to control it which will increase its longevity. It is
my belief we can keep Hellcat News going for years to
come, but Ed and I are looking where we can reduce costs,
in several areas, and present them to the executive council
in time of the annual reunion. We all agree the Hellcat News
is the lifeline of the association and our top priority to keep
publishing it.

Reunions have been one of our main sources of revenue
and as you can see, the Chapter reunions have been scaled
back to one day events with the festivities being focused on
a luncheon or dinner. As it becomes more difficult for many
to travel long distances, either by car or plane, National
Reunions will become smaller. This affects our bargaining
power, hence it will cost more. I look for all members to
supply input on how to have more mini reunions. The
executive council should hold conference calls, addressing
critical issues.
Legacy members, it is time you step forward like our
fathers did sixty plus years ago, we need your help now.
I believe all members should have the opportunity to vote,
by a postcard ballot, pre-addressed, inserted in the Hellcat
News. Voting not only on elections, but critical issues similar
to what I mentioned above.
We are unique, a Division which deactivated in September
of 1945, but still lives on today, because of the vision of a
few, and the perseverance of many, "k

Happy 60th wedding anniversary to Steve and Ann
Tratnik. The celebration was held on May 22, 2010, at their
home. Their daughter, Linda, sent the invitation to me. I hope
there was a good number of friends attending.
I am writing this article on May 10. I just received a
package from our reunion host, Barbara Campbell. It
contained brochures of Indianapolis. I will pass on the
information to you. The city devotes more acreage than
any other city in the U.S. honoring our nation's fallen, and
is second only to Washington, DC, in its number of war
memorials. Here you will find the Soldiers and Sailors
Monument, the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial,
and the USS Indianapolis National Memorial. Perhaps most
impressively, the American Legion Mall holds not only
the organization's national headquarters, but five separate
monuments, including the massive, neoclassical World War
Memorial, which houses a free museum.
A plan was drawn up years ago to make the city of
Indianapolis a first-pick destination for conventions and
events. Today, that plan is a reality. As attendees arrive at
the new Indianapolis International Airport, it's a short drive
to the modern Indiana Convention Center (the largest in the
U.S.). It is connected by skywalks to hotels, shopping malls,
200 restaurants and clubs, top sport venues, and a 10-block
state park that features museums, green space and a stunning
canal walk. Families will enjoy the Children's Museum,
