To me, there were three highlights that stand out in my
mind of our Battlefield Tour. They are the May 31 Memorial
Service at the American Cemetery in St. Avoid, Lorraine,
France; crossing the Rhine with the 12th Armored at Worms;
and the Water Works in Herrlisheim.
St. Avoid Cemetery in Lorraine with its 113 plus acres,
contains the graves of 10,489 AMERICANS who gave
their lives during the advance to the Rhine River and across
Germany in the Spring of 1945. Earl Norris, A/714th Tank
Battalion, and I, A/714th Tank, had the distinct honor of
placing the Memorial wreath honoring the members of the
12th Armored who are laid to rest in this cemetery. We did
