Many of us will well remember
the original C.O. of the 56th Arm-
ored Infantry Regiment. He was the
short, white haired Colonel, Charles
Owens. He was transfered to an-
other Division early in 1943. Later,
he was in command of the Infantry
Regiment that "liberated" Herrlis-
heim after the 12th A.D. withdrew.
This coincidence was reported by
Col. Jim Logan during the San
Francisco reunion.

Lewis A. Cottingham (Med) says;
"Not much news to write about,
however at this time of the year I
always think back to the short stay
in England and assembly at Auffay,
France in 1944 and later that cold
Christmas at Rohrback and the
following actions in '45. I sure love
this modern heating and still am
soaking it up. Best regards to all".
Cottingham probably speaks for
a lot of us. Those of us that had
the priviledge of "camping out"
with the Army in WW II would prob-
ably not be too enthusiastic about
camping out again.
We wish to thank you folks for
sending in your dues, boosters and
news. The latest report shows that
the 714th Tank Bn now has a
greater number of members than
the 17th AIB. That should not hap-
pen again. Please send in a bit of
news along with your membership
renewals.
A good finish for your car is
lacquer and liquor.
