Two Cited For
Saving Life Of
Hellcat Tanker
WOJG Raymond R. Richard-
son, Service Company, and Cpl
Roy E. Doherty, Jr., "B" Com-
pany, 23rd Tank Battalion, last
week received commendations
from Major General Carlos Brew-
er, commanding general of the
12th, for saving the life of Pfc.
Gordon E. Lamb.
By immediately applying arti-
ficial respiration to Lamb, who
was found slumped over the tur-
ret of his tank in the motor park,
16 December 1943, they were
credited with saving the soldier's
life. It was said that Lamb, a
tank driver, was overcome by car-
bon monoxide poisoning, immedi-
ately following a road march.
In his commendation to the
warrant officer, General Brewer
stated:
"Clear, quick thinking such as
you displayed on this occasion
is an important quality of a well-
trained officer and a strong indi-
cation that you will be successful
in combat. The skillful manner
in which you averted a possible
tragedy reflects much credit upon
you and your organization."
To Cpl Doherty, who was near-
by at the time and assisted Rich-
ardson in applying artificial res-
piration, the General wrote:
" you proved yourself cap-
able of efficient action under pres-
sure The excellent manner in
which you reacted to a very crit-
ical emergency is a credit to your
organization and the service."

Another Furlough, No Kiddin'?
You won't have to see the chaplain about that next furlough,
soldier, just consult your bulletin board as these men of Division
Headquarters Company are doing. Advance posting of furlough eli-
gibles is included in the new Division policy on those valued "vaca-
tions."
Alabama Singer To
Warble Revue Tune
"Regimental Rose" will be one
of the talked-about songs in the
big Division Musical Revue sche-
duled for early April showing in
Theatre No. 1. Lyrics were writ-
ten by Capt. Boni V. Bloom and
original music by Sgt. Johnnie
Neill.
"Regimental Rose" is only one
of many original numbers colla-
borated on by Capt. Bloom and
Sgt. Neill. It is
freely predict-
ed that several
of the songs
will be whistl-
ed around camp
long after the
revue, "H e 11 -
cat Holiday," is
history. They're
that good.
Chosen to sing "Regimental
Rose" is Miss Belle Brown, the
featured star of the performance.
Miss Brown, who comes from Ala-
bama and who attended the Uni-
versity there, was always active
in college productions and has
sung with various orchestras. It
so happens that she is crazy about
tanks, which makes her automat-
ically a top-notch rooter for the
12th. She's easy on the eyes and

Munich Newspaper
Praises Eisenhower
An article in a Munich news-
paper praises Gen. Eisenhower's
personality and ability without a
single disparaging comment. It
describes him as a man with a
"great will" and as a man "whom
his countrymen would call a he-
man."

Cycle In View
For 12th Men
"When can I take a furlough,
Sergeant?" is a typical question
asked by every man in the Hell-
cat division at one time or an-
other.
If the sergeant is "on the ball"
he will be able to tell each man
pretty close to the date when he
can expect his next furlough.
According to the latest informa-
tion from the office of Maj. Gen.
Carlos Brewer, the new furlough
policy is in effect and men will be
given a second "vacation with
pay" provided each soldier in a
unit has had a furlough, or indi-
cated his lack of desire to take
one, since maneuvers.
Each company will maintain a
chart showing the dates of each
soldier's last furlough, and a list
of men due to depart on furlough
will be posted on the company
bulletin board at least seven days
prior to the beginning date of the
earliest furlough. Priority will be
given to the men longest without
either a regular or emergency
furlough.
The number of men authorized
to be absent on furlough will be
calculated on a basis of 7%of the
assigned strength less one vacancy
per company reserved in a battal-
ion pool for emergency furloughs,
and not more than the resulting
figure authorized to be absent at
any one time.
Now, soldiers, if you i.uve to
