60647: Missed seeing the fellows
in Chicago, happened to be in
Hines Hospital at the time. Fm
Senior Vice Commander of V. F.
W. Post 2978 here in Chicago
and sure would enjoy seeing any
of the ex-bandsmen, M.P.'a and
Division Trains personnel.
Never a dull moment at a reunion. These bull sessions
are as much a part of each reunion as the planned tours and
dances. Typical of 12th Armored Div. Assn. fellowship is: Mrs.
Remo Croce, Elsie Nad jar, Len Dooley and Ed Brovic relaxing
between dances.
Re: 92nd Ren.
A most Happy Easter to all of
you. By the time this message
reaches print, Easter will be over,
but today, two weeks before
Blaster, it seems fitting to extend
my greetings to all of the Hellcats
and Kittens.
Received a most welcome let-
ter from Bomby Bombasaro,
which read, in part: "We sure
have had the snow, just can't
remember having more. I am very
happy to report that I am not
tending bar. I now manage the
package liquor store. It's a great
job, and I work days so I now
have every night free." Bomby,
we are now waiting to hear all
about the Illinois reunion. Sorry
we had to miss it, but being in the
land of Sunshine (what's snow?)
it was far more pleasant, weath-
erwise, in Florida.
Ed Brovic also wrote and said
he was getting ready to attend
the Illinois reunion and meet with
a lot of his friends that don't at-
end our annual reunion. Ed, can't
you get them to come to Detroit
this year — that's not too far
from Chicago? I can assure you,
that the reunion chairman is do-
ing all he possibly can to make
the Detroit reunion a super-duper
success.
Bob Saehloff sent me the follow-
ing message: "Congratulations on
equaling your 1966 final member,
ship total so early this year. As
of Feb. 4th, your 86 membership
total equals all of last year"
total. The Association has already
passed last year's final total with
7 units. Your help in aiding the
association reach a new total in
membership is greatly apprecia-
ted."
The following welcome letter
from Wm. L. Lafkowitz: "Rem-
ember George Benack? How can
anyone forget him — the old
superintendent of mails, now doing
a fine job with Air France in, I
believe, an executive position. He
can show us all how to revisit
France and Europe on a "Let's
Go Back" tour by jet. Have been
in contact with George lately via
mail and hope to see him some
day soon. (Note, how about meet-
ing him in Detroit at the reun-
ion?) Anyone ever hear from
Andy Keresties ? Jama is a mem-
ber, isn't he? Say hello to Marugg,
Brovic, Bombasaro and the rest
— what a bunch of swell guys.
Haven't heard from Ernie Akaiwa
in about two years, last time I
heard from him he was still in
service." "The Rabbit"
Note to Bill Lafkowitz: I re-
quested a copy of the Hellcat
News be sent to Ted Yelen, per
your suggestion. Maybe that will
generate some interest and we'll
have another member.
I also took care of that other
personal matter for you, but why
keep such a good act a secret?
Wishing the very best for each
and every one of you.
Sincerely,
George W. Dreher,
92nd Unit Rep.
56th AIB Reports
Sure hope all your Easter Bas-
kets where full and everyone
observed the calorie count on
each little tid-bit. I know Nick
Hardony lost weight just chasing
the bunny (The one at the
"Bunny Club").
I received the most wonderful
letter from Mrs. Orlena Blair the
mother of Lt. Clyde J. Blair who
was killed in Speyer, Germany.
Mrs. Blair who is 80 years young
is not only active in the church
but has been carrying on corre-
spondence with 80 of our boys in
Vietnam. Our special thanks to
this truly remarkable woman and
one of the 56th's most loyal sup-
porters.
It sure is exciting seeing the list
of new members from the 56th
each month. Now if they would
send me some news about them-
selves! Ed Golden (B) has left his
teaching (Phy. Ed) in the Crans-
ton, R.I. School system to manage
an apartment house chain in
Narragansett, R.I. Ed coached the
swimming team to 7 straight State
Titles and 4 N.E. titles. He and
his wife, the former Judith Marley
are the N.E. Tennis Champs.
Jack Begley (B) missed the
Chicago Reunion (the 1st in 15
years) because his Little League
Team was in the playoffs. After
winning the title in '64 and '65
they lost on the night of our re-
union dinner dance.
Steve Pedrett (B) is managing
a retail chain in Red Bluff, Calif,
and has the first of his own chain
started in a Gulf Service Station.
Chester Andrzejczak (A) was
a "nut" about motorcycles in the
56th and still is. The entire family
lives and breathes motorcycle
racing, from 22 year old, Paul to
