The HELLCAT NEWS
REPORT FROM
495TH AFA BN
UNIT REP
Hi Folks . . . Well you would
never know it, but aOready this
is the 3rd article since our re-
union. Time just passes much
too fast. Before you know it
another month passes by. As
we get older there is always
good news and sometimes sad.
Man, am I starting off by be-
ing down in the dumps . . Will
have to knock it off in a
hurry. The best way is to wel-
come in a new family into the
association. Our latest addition
is Ricfoard MicConnau'ghlay acid
this is good news to the boys
in "A" Btry. Dick was one of
the most likeable sergeants in
the outfit. No offense to the
other non-coms. Dick resides
in Phoenix, Ariz, with his wife
Eleanor and their 17 year old
son Ralph. Ralph is in his
senior year of high school.
Dick has been an Arizonian for
5V2 years. Previously he lived
in 111. Well in '66 our reunion
will be held in Chicago, so how
about killing 2 birds with one
visit. Of course we would soon-
er have you in Cleveland in
'65. There's nothing like it. In
many years to come we sure
hope you enjoy reading the
Hellcat News and don't hesi-
tate to drop a few lines when-
ever possible. . . . Here's some-
thing for you Hellcats that I
can't get to write. Received' a
two page type written letter
from 5 year oild Jamie Dew
Ostraat. After hiavinig iit inter-
preted, it read, "all is well in
South Dakota, mom,dlad, Ram-
dy and myself are just fine.
You have me sold on all future
reunions and the folks will
Liave one rouigfh time trying to
keep me from attending the
Cleveland reunion." In closing
she sends her best regards to
all the fine people she met, to
Janet Strubbe and to all the
other kids. How about that!!!
Now maytbe some of you guys
will geit a hold of a pen 'and
drop your unit rep a few lines.
. . . All is well with the Myirl
Taliaferros' in Dallas, Texas.
Well it should be after the
wonderful 8 day guided tour
to Colorado via traiin. It sure
sounded terrific. Also received
a snapshot and I don't know
whether it's his son or not.
That Texas air must surely a-
gree with Myrl . . . Since the
reunion we have had nothing
but praise from Lee DeMauro.
She sure can make a person
feel good all over. All you guys
that have been on any reunion
committees can take a well de-
served bow. AIL is well with all
the DeMauro's up in Chicago.
. . . Our monthly SICK RE-
PORT. . . . Art Worth has been
laid up for a while and we
certainly hope it's nothing ser-
ious. Knowing Art, he likes to
be up and ait 'em and he would
like to take some of the bur-
den off Leona and Weston. All
of us being in the service,
know better ways to gold-brick
without getting sick. . . . Helen
Mielnik has been in the hos-
pital for the past 2 weeks and
will have surgery performed
next week. It hasn't been the
same around here and the kids
and myself are sure going to
be one happy gang when mom
gets home. We're taking all
dinner invites we can possibly
get. All kidding aside, Carol is
doing a good job taking care
of the house and her job too.
. . . Just got through talking
to B i b b y Quici, our good
friend from the 714th. Charley
was hospitalized for a week,
is noit back to work as yet but
cominig along fine. Right new
he's catching up on his land-
scaping. Well all you Hellcats,
let's hurry up and get well,
both male and female. ... A
message from Helgy to Clint
Seitz and all parties interested.
Merle Carey, former B Btry.
commander, is now a Lt. Col.,
but the army register does not
list his present address and
the Army Register did not turn
anything up on Chaplain Allen
Dillon. However our good old
reporter, Helgeson will look in
further imto the matter. So
hang on Clint. . . . Just as I
was getting ready to sign o(ff,
Karen walks in with a letter
from Betty and Larry Johnson.
Of course you guys know who
wrote the letter. Well iit suire
as heck wasn't Larry. All is
well in Columbus, Ind. Their
visit to Art Worth's was one
long to be remembered. Espe-
cially the night we all slept
in the tent with the boys. Lar-
ry, Art and myself just could-
n't talk ourselves out of it. It
had all the earmarks of some
of our bivouac days. The kidis
thought we had a Burp gun
in the tent with us but some-
thing gave us away.
You can bet your bottom
buck that the Johnson's will
Oh Charlie! Your Such An
How do you like this Charles Smith (C/17)? What could he
have said to give the secretary's wife that pleased look?i Listen-
ing in on Charlie's blarney are Beth Sadlo and Rosemary Cleve-
land. We sure have to keep an eye on these Hellcat bachelors.
be in Cleveland next year.
Note to Hal Anderson: Larry
wants to finish off the wrestl-
ing match with you. Tickets
will go on sale in the lobby of
the hotel. . . . Well that's it
for now. Everyone take good
caire and God Blesls you all. A-
gain our little reminder, let's
all do a little recruiting and
help make the 4©5th grow. . . .

my vacation near the ocean.
Hope to get to a reunion one
of these times. If its not the
time its the finances. Would
like to hear from any of the
"C" company boys. The years
really go by fast and I look
forward to my Hellcat News

to realize that another year
has gone by again. Your dues
notice certainly brought that
fact to light. Apparently age is
beginning to move in, or so
they say, when time goes by
fast. Our son Bill has complet-
ed his first year at Annapolis
and completed his summer
cruise here on the west coast.
Still haven't been able to think
of any way to have a west
coast reunion but peirinlaps one
of these days enough of us will
get together to swing it. Unfor-
tunately I haven't met anyone
to do this with so far. Best of
luck to the association for this
year."
