me. The best news I get is read-
ing the HCN but would enjoy
hearing from some of you guys.
Love, prayers and best wishes."
Nice note from Warren Spitler
(C) who is becoming a regular
correspondent, and it takes you
guys, believe me, I appreciate it
very much. Don't worry about
overloading me as I can hold
and edit and that way always
have some backlog for a "light"
month. You hear me Pete and
Mike?
"Spit" writes: "I keep pretty
busy with my yard work, some
repairs, and a friend of mine
keeps my busy helping him cut
wood, cleaning up 17 acres and
I also make sausage once in a
while." (That sounds good). "I
appreciated the picture in the
HCN and am sure Clair Smith
liked it, too. He was such a
great guy and always liked to
work with him, as our tool box
was together. Not sure I will be
able to make Orlando as the
daughter of old friends in our
Church is getting married the
same weekend. Sure would like
to see George Sanger, he was a
good 1st Sgt. Hope you are en-
joying retirement as I am, How-
ard. Don't use the old alarm,
walk quite a bit and have our
garden in. Will be going to
Vegas June 6th as our son
David will be married. Take
care and keep up the good work.
Warren and Frances." Janice
and I enjoyed meeting Patricia
and David Spitler on the 1st
European trip. We wish David
and his bride many years of
happiness together.
Received a letter from Donald
W. Seedborg B/82 mailed from
France where he attended the
April "Rhin & Danube" Asso-
ciation reunion at Besancon.
"This was a most outstanding
affair. The outpouring of love
and kindness from the French
people was real rewarding. Food
was A+ at all times."
Some time ago George Wayne
Dozier of Australia became a
rejuvinated member and while
visiting recently in the States,
kindly provided Mike Gorman
with the following information
which we have permission to
use. "I would like to rejoin the
Assoc. because I really liked the
paper, but one thing that stop-
ped me was would they take
Australian currency? Believe it
or not, I am still in good health.
I did leave the cattle ranch and
came back into civilization
where I am trying to run a dairy
operation and keep pure bred
cattle. I have 4 children by my
wife in Australia, 11 year old,
10 year old twins and a 7 year
old. I left the Station because
they had to have a little educa-
tion. If I had stayed there, they
probably would not have been
able to read and write. New-
comb came down to Georgia
and went hunting with me a
long time ago. I would like to
see Sanger, all right. How are
those 2? I hope to be in the
States the last week of March
on a direct flight from Cairns to
Hawaii and then on to San
Francisco. I can be in Edison,
GA in about 30 hours where I
will stay with my older children
and sister. At least I will miss
part of the wet season."
We welcome Wayne and hope
by the time the HCN reaches
him "down under" the news
won't be too ancient. Great to
hear from him and have him
back in the Assoc. fold.
By way of clarification, the
Caribbean Cruise offered in the
HCN around Reunion time, is
not sponsored by the Assoc. but
offered space for advising mem-
bers who wished to participate.
It could be a great trip. Janice
and I considered it, but I will
have the privilege of visiting
my Mother-in-law for a week in
Tampa following the Reunion.
Last year after the Denver
bash, Jim and Lee Mizen joined
up with 4 other Hellcat couple
in a 12 passenger Van and
toured for a week visiting Jolly
Rancher Candy Co., Coors Brew-
ery, Estes Park and the Rock-
ies, Aspen, Royal Gorge, Crip-
ple Creek mining town and
home. She stated "The best part
of the whole trip was the fact
that 10 people started our as
close friends and that's the way
we parted." So you see, a cruise
might be additional fun with
some Hellcat friends. Mizen's
state that "When you are retir-
ed, 24 hours in the day are not
enough."
To close, it is time to begin to
think about hard workers, ded-
icated to the Association, who
might be interested in serving
as an Officer in some capacity,
you can provide me with the
names of any capable candid-
ates for the various offices, but
we ask that you contact that
person before sending in their
name and verify that they will
accept the nomination. You can
understand why this is very
important. When you send me
the names, please make a nota-
Can Men of Faith Be
Involved in Politics?
When professed religious peo-
ple become vocal and active in
politics, they are immediately
accused by the press and the
established political order of
somehow violating the "separ-
ation of Church and State."
What they really mean is that
Christians are not welcome in
politics and government. Sepa-
ration of Church and State
means that there shall be no
official, government-recogniz-
ed, sponsored, and funded estab-
lished Church. (Public schools
today actually fit this descrip-
tion.) Therefore it is possible to
keep the State separate from
the Church in this regard. How-
ever, we cannot separate the
State from religion - some reli-
gion as the basic faith by which
it will exist and operate. This,
separation of Church and State
cannot mean that political
order is to be totally devoid of
any and all values, for govern-
ment is the establishment of a
moral order - whatever it ac-
cepts as being good and ulti-
mate is its religious basis.
The obvious point is this: All
men are men of faith either
theistic or non-theistic. No
neutrality is possible. The ab-
sence of some religion is impos-
sible. Those who would deny or
ignore the God of Christianity
are commonly regarded by soc-
iety and the press as not being
religious men - but they are!
They are simply non-theistic
believers in man - they are
humanists (regardless of any
domestic denominational at-
tachment).
In other words, all men are
tion in your letter to the effect
that the potential candidate has
been contacted and is willing to
accept a nomination if it is
offered to them. We know that
there are many capable and
interested people with leader-
ship qualities who have much
to offer the Association and new
blood is always welcome. You
may know just the person to
bring new spark to some par-
ticular aspect. Contact them,
and then send me their names
to be forwarded on to the Nom-
inating Committee.
My cup does not runneth over!
In fact, the well has run dry.
Get busy and drown me with
letters to use in the coming
months.

religious and operate on the
basis of their faith. Unfortun-
ately, those who express hostil-
ity to the Bible and Christian-
ity are not widely recognized
as religious humanists, but
rather are upheld and praised
as being "neutral," "objective,"
and "fair-minded." This is a
sweeping indictment of the
American society in which we
live today.
However, this is not a recent
development. This very topic
was addressed in the late 1800's
by Princeton theologian Archi-
bald Alexander Hodge, when
he attacked ". . . The radically
fallacious idea that secular and
atheist opinions and approach-
es to education were 'neutral'
while religious approaches were
partial and prejudiced. Hodge
insisted that the statist ap-
proach was as fully committed
and sectarian as any other, that
it was indeed an establishment
of an immediate minimum the-
ism, but in actual fact an ulti-
mate atheism." Hodge was effect-
ively destroying the concept of
neutrality by revealing it for
what it is - non-existent, a myth.
Some concluding observations
are in order:
1. All men have faith - either
theistic or non-theistic.
2. All political action is based
on some faith. Therefore it is
impossible to separate the State
from some religion as its basis.
3. For Christians to be fright-
ened from the political "arena"
is to leave it available to the
non-theistic humanists.
4. Separation of Church and
State is a straw-man issue.
Since all men have some faith,
this argument cannot be used
to exclude any.
5. Separation of Church and
State will never be a legitimate
issue as long as no effort is
made to officially name a
church as the legally govern-
ment-recognized, sponsored and
funded, established Church in
the State or nation. Thus, the
non-theistic secular humanists,
whose public schools meet the
above criteria, seem to be the
only threat in the land to the
violation of separation of
Church and State.
6. The battle today is over
whether men of theistic or non-
theistic faith set policy.
7. It is the epitome of hypocrisy
for the humanists in politics
and the media to call upon
