Jim Buhr (CC B) on right, visited his old army buddy Joe
Jenkins, left, in Litchfield, KY. It was their first get together in
40 years. Jim, how about getting Joe to join us and see more of
his buddies'?
ery on the beaches at that time).
Upon his return from France,
Don sends an interesting and
newsy letter in which he states
that he had one of the greatest
times of his life with the wond-
erful "Rhin et Danube" French-
men's Association. To tell the
whole story would make a book
and he intends to do so if he can
find time this summer. He con-
tinues . . . Can't get over the
comradeship that I found so
very unique among the French
towards me as soon as they
found out I was in the 12th
Armd. Div. They knew all about
the division after all these 40
years in our established close
friendship those 3 days spent
together. On the backs of our
great program books, the French-
men wrote notes and one really
stuck in my mind . . . ("A little
rememberance from a French
friend (A "frog") - Many
thanks to the people of America
and particularly from XXI
Corps). A Frenchman gave Don
a gift of the Colmar Coat of
Arms. Don purchased a small
supply and sends one on to me.
He hopes to secure additional
and will offer them for sale if
Hellcats are interested in the
belated award. Don closes with
. . . God Bless All Fellow Hel-
lcats. My thanks to you Don for
the colorful Coat of Arms patch
and for the nice things you said
about the column.
Albert Baxter, Jr. (Div Hq/G-
2) is also heard from. A1 sends
dues and another Hellcat with
matching booster. He includes
a letter from his home in Lin-
coln, NE. A1 apologizes for be-
ing a little slow and hopes he's
not too belated in sending in
his dues. (No apologies neces-
sary Al. You are right on target
and just missed being an early
bird by a whisker). He adds ...
He hopes his booster would
keep another Hellcat on the
rolls in the event someone might
be in financial straight. He con-
tinues . . . Just got home from
the hospital after a worrisome
health problem. Seems as if the
old 62 year-old 'ticker' is the
source. However, I'm feeling
better and happy to be alive.
My dear wife of over 41 years,
Maxine and daughter Lynda
and family (2 grandsons and a
fine son-in-law give me great
moral support. Al closes with ..
. It's also great to be a Hellcat
and a P.S. that he really enjoys
the HCN. We all wish you con-
tinued good health in the future,
Al.
Wilbur Dunlavy (Div Hq/
CCB) sends dues and a note
from Long Beach, CA telling us
everything is great here in Cal-
ifornia in spite of having a bit
of unusually chilly weather that
they don't usually get this time
of the year but is sure it will get
plenty hot before long. He fur-
ther adds ... I will become a
great granddad the latter part
of July. Doesn't seem possible.
Time sure filies when you're
having fun. One of my grand
daughters (14) has a new com-
mercial and no less for Coca
Cola. She and twins (11) still do
modeling. We think it's great.
This is all for now. So until next
year.
John Melfi (Div Hq/CCB)
sends dues, booster and short
note from Florida informing us
that he is heading north for the
summer and very anxious to
see the family. John and Betty
who will make their summer
home in Columbus, Ohio con-
vey a "Hi" to your rep and all
their friends in the 12th.
Another CCB Hellcat, Jim
Buhr, renews membership and
sends along a short letter from
Clear Lake, Wis. stating that he
and his wife are in good health
and still going every day as
they have not retired as yet.
Recently they were in Kentucky
and were able to find an old
buddy who also served in CCB
during the war years with Jim.
It was their first meeting in
nearly 40 years. He is Joe Jen-
kins (a non-member), 308 Beville
Drive, Litchfield, KY 42754.
We welcome another new mem-
ber to the group. He is William
Avery who also served with
CCB. Our thanks go to Warren
Maue (17 AIB Unit Rep) who
recruited Bill for us. In a note to
Warren, Bill thanks him for his
letter and news of the 12th. he
enclosed his check for dues and
will be looking forward to de-
tails of the September (Orlando)
reunion.
Orin Smith (Div Hq/CCA)
renews for the new year and
Norb Bruemmer sends an item
that was carried in a recent
issue of the 44th Tank Bn new-
sletter, "Wolf Call" and will be
of interest to the group. Written
to Dave Scobie (44 Tk Bn), the
note reads . . . Received a letter
from Orin Smith and the word
is great. June has put back on
20 pounds. The tumor has been
reduced to the point where it
shows up as a little fuzzy spot
on the CAT-Scan. The CAT-
Scan is like being put in a tun-
nel and the X-rays are taken
around your body so that the
doctors can get a good look at
what ever organs they are in-
terested. CAT stands for Com-
puter- Actuated-Tonometry. June
and Orin attribute the success-
fulness to not only the doctors,
but also to all the prayers which
have been offered by their 44th
family. It was a great comfort
to receive all the cards while
June was in the hospital. They
are hoping to thank everyone
in person this August. The
group joins in wishing June the
best and that she will enjoy
continued good health now that
this ordeal is over.
Our good friend Dottie Clark

(56 AIB) whom we have such a
grand time with at the yearly
Easterns sends a photo and
drops a line after returning home
from Stroudsburg. Writing from
Browns Mills, N.J., she states
that she had a real good time in
the Poconos and thanks us for
the lovely company. Dottie
should be in Alaska at this
reading and will return in time
to take off for the big one in
Orlando.
Norb Bruemmer relates an
interesting observation that he
noted while attending the North
Central Meeting in Eau Claire,
Wis. While there, he met two
brothers. They were Nick (Div
Hq/CCB) and Stan (714 Tk Bn)
Glumac and seems that this
could be unusual to have two
brothers together in the associ-
ation so many years after the
war. I can recall another pair of
brothers who served in the 12th
while on active duty. They were
Paul (Div Hq/QM) and Joseph
(Div Hq/SSO) Pavia. Anyone
out there know of any others?
Other renewals with a scat-
tering of boosters are Al Lysin-
ger, Frank Campo, Fred Wolf,
Julian Saks and Paul Burkit
(Div Hq); Paul Goben (Div Hq/-
CCA); Jimmie Reese (Div
Hq/SSO); Col John Kirk (USA-
Ret) Div Hq/Fin); Tom Cukas
(Div Hq/AG); Julian Jay (Div
Hq/G-3); Nick Kepf (Band/MP);
Ted Mysliwiec, Joe Ciccolella
and Bruce Jacobs (Div Tns);
Former Lt Col Leslie Dixon, Bill
Newby, Ralph Erwin, Carroll
Broadrick, Ray Sacharski and
Bill Church (Divarty); Jim
McGinnis (Div Hq/CCB).
FURTHERMORE... The Cal-
ifornia Angels arrived into town
on May 29 to play the New
York Yankees. I had a feeling
that Jimmie Reese wouldn't be
with the club and was later con-
firmed when I called the hotel
where they stay. I then made a
call to Jimmie at his home in
Los Angeles and had a lengthy
talk with him. Due to the mild
heart attack he had last fall,
his doctor advised him not take
that road trip. So our fact-to-
face yearly reunion didn't hap-
pen this year so we held it over
the phone. Jimmie feels fine, is
always with the club while
home and conveys his best
wishes to all.
Only two months now 'til
Orlando. Make plans to be
there. "IT'S GREAT TO BE A
HELLCAT".
