66th AIB REPORTS
These months sure roll around
fast. Seems like I no sooner send
one to the Editor and I'm working
on the next months column. This
month the Editor is going to mail
complimentary copies to many of
our buddies that aren't members
with the hopes they will become in-
terested not only in the 66th, but
in our Association. Last year we
"snowed" the 23rd AIB in mem-
bership, but the 56th AIB in turn
"snowed" us. Come on you non-
members, join up, and we'll show
the division what a real combat
battalion can do.
I sure learned some interesting
facts about our Association at the
council meeting in Chicago. We
not only have 300 paid members
more than the 4th Armored Div.
Assn., but we are rated among the
top five Army Associations in at-
tendance at reunions.
The airline strike sure hurt our
attendance in Chicago, but we still
beat the 23rd and 56. Flo and Ted
Bernstein made it . . . by Grey-
hound Bus yet, and of course Bert
Romano wouldnt miss if he had to
crawl. From Pa. there was Sally and
Jay Schenkemeyer, Mary and John
Nemeth and Viola and Harold
McCormick. From Maryland we
had the Paul Greenwelf's and Bill
Parker (Bill is now a Lt. Col. at
Abeerdeen Proving Grounds). From
Ohio we had the Paul Birsen's the
Joseph Zumwald's and a first re-
union for Alvena and George Car-
penter also Marquerite and Clarence
Danielson of Superior, Wis.
Won't mention all that attended
but we can't leave out the "GO"
group: The Gerald Van Landeg-
hams, the Ward McGills, the Bill
McBrides, Geo. O'Bryan's, Gene
Sabin's, and the Charles Nicholson's.
Jeanne and Bill Horrell will make
a reunion as soon as his 2 weeks of
active duty doesn't conflict with
reunions. Roger Wilkowski is going
to adjust his timing. In July his
NO DOUBT ABOUT IT — The 495th's "Mr. Baseball" Dave
Yiverito is having a little trouble trying to explain the glasses
in his hands to Fred Erichsen. Oh Well, maybe he didn't break
training . . . the straws in the glasses are proof that they are
only gingerale.
wife gave birth to a set of twins,
boys, and he now has five boys
(Our 66th just does everything
better). Weldon Gilkison wrote how
much he enjoys the HELLCAT
NEWS.
Ed Fischer sends regards to the
hoys, and Albert Loden mentioned
Temple Fielding's new book on
travel (Al: we did identify some of
the snapshots, but not nearly all of
them. Maybe the gang in Detroit
will do better.)
There still are quite a few of
you guys that haven't paid your
dues. Now that you have the new
secretary's address let's get it in
and drop me a line or two for the
column.
Happy Thanksgiving

Ted R. Ward (B/493), 141
Gardner Dr., Palestine, Texas,
75801: Have no doubt the 493rd
boys enjoyed the reunion. Our
youngest son, Theodore Robert is
in Vie nam with the 25th Infantry
and we are looking forward to his
coming home soon. He received the
Purple Heart but he is doing fine
now. I 11 be with the railroad 20
years next March and I don't want
any smart aleck A Battery man to
say that's a long time to be riding
the rods.
Hugo Sunell (B/493), 2105 River
Road, Grand Rapids, Minn. 55 744:
Just couldn t make Chicago, but
I 11 see the gang in Detroit. T. N.
Julson and family stopped at the
house after the reunion and we
sure had a enjoyable visit. After
hearing about the fun you had at
the reunion say "Hello" to the gang
from the 493rd and I'll see you in
Detroit.
★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★-A-*** WHAT'S NEW! ***★*★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF:
92nd Recon Reports
Welcome to Carmello Amato, Jr.
of 1717 Burke Rd., Wallace, Idaho
83873 who is one of our new mem-
bers. Now Amato, why don't you
try and get Heinlein to join with
us too. The more the merrier!
Lt. Col. Robt. E. Cobb retired
July 31, 1966. His temporary ad-
dress 43 1 W. Main St., Decatur,
111. 62522. We will let you know
his permanent address when he
finally "settles" down. Guess he is
looking around for the perfect spot.
Mes-age from Bill Hawkins: Sure
sorry, but we just couldn't make
Chicago. God Willing, we'll see you
in Detroit.
Message from Anthony R.
Scarpone: Still on the police dept.
here is Lodi, N.J. I've been sick
these past months with the old
heart but getting along O.K. now.
(Tony, take care of yourself and
we all wish you lots of good health
in the future.)
Message from Bill Lafkowitz:
Sorry I missed No. 20 but just
couldn't get away at the time. My
best to all and I hope I can make
next year's reunion - - - Did you
ray New York City? (Nol the 21st
reunion will be in Detroit and we
expect you to be with us.)
Message from Clifford Mosser:
Willard Strolberg (F Co.) and wife
Marge of Axtell, Nebr. surprised
us with a week-end visit. We sure
hashed it over in two days plus
refreshments at my bar. Willard is
a corn and wheat rancher and
hadn't seen him since we came
home. (Hope you invited Willard
to join us HELLCATS. You could
meet again next year in Detroit.)
Message from Donald F. Lukes:
Not much news. T"he three children
are really grown up now all in high
schcool. I'm still driving a gas
transport having over 18 years of
safe driving.
Part of a message from Bernie
Bombasaro: Congratulations on
your first column as a unit rep. It
was a terrific news item, but you
got Elsie's dinner part wrong. Ed
told me to give you heck. (I didn't
get it wrong. I have the original
typed report. Try blaming the type-
setter.)
Received encouraging news from
Bob Saehloff. Our 92nd boys have
been paying their dues faster than
ever before. Now if you few de-
linquents would hurry we could be
the first unit with 100% renewals.
We're now at our winter home in
Tampa, Fla. Our mail is being for-
warded from Detroit — so keep
writing and pass on any news you
have. I need your help to keep this
column going.
I wish everyone a Happy Thanks-
giving. We all have much to be
thankful for.
