82WD MEDICAL
BATTAL
5?
Pictured is the group of 82nd Hellcats who attended
the Battalion get-together at the Ramada Inn, Elkhart,
Indiana, June 11-14, 1986. Picture from Bernard Rice,
who chaired the event.
NO. 345, 23 August 1944 and
AR 600-45 22 September 1943
as amended, the Meritorious
Service Unit Plaque is awarded
to 82nd Medical Battalion Arm-
ored, from 1 October 1944 to 21
March 1945.
This award is made for super-
ior performance of duty in sup-
porting the Division during its
operation at Rohrbach, France
and the vicinity, Herrlisheim,
France and the vicinity of
Colmar; during the conquest of
Southern Germany west of the
Rhine and during the initial
stages of persuit across the
Rhine. In all of these opera-
tions their devotion to duty has
been outstanding and their
duties have been performed in
a superior manner.
Medical support has been
continuous and the highest
quality in spite of long ambul-
ance hauls, difficult terrain and
concerted enemy fire. Medical
trreatment has been adminis-
tered early in all cases and
many original ideas and im-
provisation have been devised
and put into effect there by
increasing the efficiency of the
medical service to a marked
degree. The outstanding degree
of teamwork displayed by this
Battalion and the medical de-
tachments under the supervi-
sion of the Division Surgeon's
Section has made possible a
great conservation of fighting
strength of this Division. This
award is also based on: Super-
ior military courtesy; excellent
appearance of personnel, in-
stallations and equipment;
enthusiastic execution of
orders, low Venereal disease
rate; small number of men
AWOL, few convictions by
Courts-Martial, or punishments
under AW 104. By Command
of Major Gen. Allen Head-
quarters 12th Armored Divi-
sion.
Since your column this month
deals mostly with our 82nd
Memorial Park Unit Marker,
would be a most appropriate
time to mention the names that
were made available to me, on
your contributions during the
time of construction, also com-
pleted afterward at a very early
date. Due to your kindest per-
sonal assistance. XXI Corps
Ben Twigg (Hq) James Ather-
ton, Sidney MacLeod, (A) Vin-
cent Mancenelli, (B) Frederick
Robinson -Via B- Div. Hq, Earl
Ridgley, Roger Roy, Don Seed-
borg, John Drane (C) H. Reed
Wedding. A big thank you must
go out to all the men at last
years 82nd get together at
Louisville, for their large
donations, but did not get their
names at the time, sorry to say,
but we all know who you were.
I would like to hear from every-
one as soon as possible; on
what is to be done with that
surplus money left over, as the
final payment is in the-hands
of our 12th A.D. Association
Treasurer John Cassella. So far
I have suggestions to consider,
as giving our small surplus
funds to the Patton Museum or
I might suggest a nice wreath
of flowers at the Markers site.
The Louisville Reunion is the
last week of next August.
The dedication Ceremonies
will rightfully be MC'd by
Owsley Costlow and he states
we are going to be limited to
only 400 in attendance, due to
the inability of Ft. Knox Per-
sonnel to cope with more than
that number, sorry to say at
this writing. Would also like to
know how many from the 82nd
will want to attend the Ft.
Knox Ceremonies, which will
take place on Thursday, August
27th, so will want to be sure to
have our place there that day if
possible.
Your company news letters
are pretty scarce this month,
but with spring in the air and
everyone busy preparing for
Passover and Easter Holidays,
I will look forward to your
correspondance next month. I
hope everyone is having con-
tinued good health and urge
your attendance at the Big
Western and Eastern Chapter
Meetings this May. Please send
to me a report also on those
past Midwest, Southeastern
and Central Chapters meetings,
which you have already just
attended, by this time you of
the 82nd might have received
April H.C.N, by the time it has
taken place.
Everyone now has sent in
their 1987 dues with B/82
Roger Roys' dues, (covers
through Feb. 21, 1987). As be-
fore, late notifications were sent
out to 14 unpaid members by
our Executive Secretary, Norb
Bruemmer this past month and
we will appreciate your late
response so as not to lose you
from our membership rolls and
for your monthy H.C.N, rest of
this year.
So a Happy Sacred Holiday
and may the Good Lord Bless
and keep you all in his care.
"Its great to be a Hellcat"
Cordially,
Don

Northwest Chapter
YES, I said YES fellow Hel-
lcats we now have a chapter
here in our area called the
NORTHWEST CHAPTER and
I owe it to a great Hellkitten by
the name of Inez Warnes. You
all know her very well. Berna-
dene and Gene Curry were go-
ing to be in town that weekend
and she said "lets get a bunch
of Hellcats and Hellkittens to-
gether here at our house" and I
said "fine," so the wheels were
turning and I said "fine I will
draw up an application to start
a Chapter" and would you
believe after sending out some
letters to those around this
area, and making some phone
calls, we wound up with the
required amount to start a
chapter. This was a short
notice, so I was happy to get
who we did here, and Inez sure
fixed up a great assortment of
food items, which everybody
sure enjoyed and we had a Bar
set up on the kitchen counter
and everyone had to serve
themselves.
The following signed the
application: Ken. Warnes Sv/
714th, Edward H. Gyselinck
Sv/493rd, Don Stowell B/17th,
Carl Wenzel C/714th, Frank J.
Gallagher Hq/23rd, Louis E.
Fitzwater C/43rd, Gene Curry
A/119th, Raymond Hammond
Hq/17th, Bill Waddington
C/56th, and Jack Miller Sv/
494th. These were signed the
8th day of February 1987 and
sent to the Executive-Secretary,
who forwarded it to the Presi-
dent Bob Schwartz, who
approved it on the 17th day of
February 1987. And believe it
or not that was a great day for
Inez and I, as we were married
on the 17th. Celebrated our
45th.
Of course a get together like
this would not be complete
without the Big Boosters of our
Association our Hellkittens.
They are the following Inez
Warnes, Elvira Gyselinck,
Betty Stowell, Mildred Wenzel,
Eunice Gallagher, Marion Fitz-
water, Bernadene Curry, Ber-
nice Hammond, (Shirley Wad-
dington could not make it), and
Mary Miller. We did have two
special guests present, Marjorie
and Bill Schorer, Gene's sister
and brother-in-law. Many of
you met them aboard the Queen
Mary this past August.
