suggest that you show up in
Charlotte and find out for your-
self.
Time out for a paragraph
from the Hellcat News, June
20, 1945. "Through the heroic
exploits of it's personnel, the
12th received widespread pub-
licity in the newspapers of the
nation during its five months
of combat."
I had been wondering what
Charles Galli was doing and a
letter from him gave me the
answer. He was in Florida to
visit his family and while there
he got together with Jim and
Hazel LaFond at the "Mouse
House." Chuck and Ray Piepen-
brink were close friends and he
certainly misses his old buddy.
Chuck is back to his gardening,
applauding for the tomatoes
and cussing the weeds.
Well, good friends, the mail
was light this month so the
article is a bit shorter. Write
your rep!!
This is about the last call for
the reunion registration, Oh,
yes, there will be the August
issue of the H.C.N, but that is
really pressing the panic but-
ton. The first report of registra-
tion out listed the names of
Bellamy, Colon, Gesin, Lantero,
Semprini, Wallander, Stanton,
Wells, and Wren. There are
more in but I don't have the
names yet. Make sure yours is
on the next report.
Here is a snappy retort for
you couch potatoes. When the

(We have a problem. We've
lost our columist. No one knows
where he's evaporated to but
we've notified the local police
who laughed hysterically, and
wanted to know why we were
even looking for him.
The ASPCA said they'd check
their cages carefully and the
psychiatric wards of 13 hospital

Somewhere in Germany
Dear Dad,
Sorry about the lack of mail
but I haven't had a chance to
write you sooner. I sure hope
you and Mom haven't been too
worried. We've been pretty busy
these days.
Guess I never said much
about the guys in my outfit.
They're characters, all of them.
For instance, there's our "Com-
plainer".
Remember when I was little
and cried and Mom rushed to
pick me up and I'd stop crying
right away? We got the some-
what grown up version. Vinnie
never quits trying. The sight of
a crewman changing a track
gives him a backache; the pros-
pect of going back to Battalion
for supplies produces instant
headaches and the thought of
driving a tank brings on an
immediate pain somewhere in
his stomach.
The mere rumor of a move
back to the front sends him
reeling to wake up the Medic,
pleading for "something for
these terrible stomach pains".
Happens every time.
One day it finally got so bad
the Medic swore everyone to
secrecy to avoid having Vinnie
find him. And along with his
pains and the constant vocal
recitation of their type, location
and frequency we have to listen
to his bitching, about the Army,
the Air Force, the "brass", the
food and practically everything
else. He is without a doubt, the
world's leading expert in this
category.
We're convinced that if he
ever met the Holy Mother (no
way!) he'd find fault with her.
Vinnie doesn't like anything
about the war, but then again
who does? We just can't say it
as well as he can.
Finally, last week when Vin-
nie waltzed in with his famous
"stomach pains" (we were mov-
ing back into combat the next
day) the Medic shipped him
back to the aid station, sooth-
ing Vinnie with the thought
that they'd take good care of
him. They sure did. Took out
his appendix.
We got a few problems when
it comes to food. Can't get
enough of it. The Army is hav-
ing a tough time catching up
with us and our kitchens are
bare. Now I know what those
history books meant when they
talked about invading armies
"living off the land".
I'm getting awful good at
catching stray chickens when
they run across the road-but
they're aren't too many of
