As I begin this October column, would you believe the
calendar still is open to the month of August? Furthermore, by
the time you receive this copy, our National Reunion will be a
happy memory! My bride Eileen and I have all our plans in
gear, and are anxious to see the Old Friends, and make New
Ones! We are flying from Providence to Louisville on Saturday,
September 12, and will depart for home on Thursday, Septem-
ber 17. We have reserved a Hospitality Executive Suite on the
3rd floor of the Gait House East, and since our Chairman of the
Reunion, Owsley Costlow, sent a floor plan of our suite, it will
do quite nicely for our Hdq. Group!
FROM: JOE HOLLERBACH: (Check enclosed) This is going
to be a quick one because I just received the HCN a couple of
days ago. I wish I could help you as an alternate rep (So do I,
Joe!) but I've had to give up my church work and community
volunteer efforts. Well, what I can do for you is suggest that
you and Eileen take the enclosed contribution to help get a suite
so DIV HDQ can have a hospitality room. We'll go along with
whatever you think is best for the Tuesday Unit Dinner. I got up
this morning at 6:30 AM and by 8:30 have put a layer of August
lawn food and weed killer out. Reba had breakfast started so we
have that done and she's getting food ready for the farewell
pot-luck party for our pastor who is leaving next week. This is
kind of disjointed, but we made our reservations for Louisville
and have received our confirmation and tickets, so will see you
there. We can discuss the alternate rep at that time. Jocelyn
won't be able to attend this year because she is working and
going to college. Hang in there all you Hellcats and Kittens,
and we'll have a good time at the Big 50!
FROM: GEORGE McKEON: (Check enclosed) Just read the
HCN, especially your thoughts on the Hospitality Room. If you
and Eileen can stand doing it again, I'm sure no one will offer
any objections. (Only kidding!) And to prove I read all of your
article, I'm enclosing some seed capital for the project. See you
in Louisville. Best regards to you both.
FROM: BOB BROWN: By way of introduction, I'm Bob
Brown (Hdq Div Arty). My wife Jean and I attended the '90
Reunion at Charlotte, North Carolina, and feel that some sort of
a Hospitality Room is needed. Your idea sounds great. I'm
enclosing $25.00 check to help with the expenses and feel sure
that all will be glad to pitch in. Have been corresponding with
Ray Sacharski, and he and his wife are coming, and we both
feel that Div Arty will be well represented. Jean and I would
also be interested in a Unit Dinner. You're doing a great job,
keep it up. See you in Louisville.
FROM: MAX SCHWARTZ: (Check enclosed) Looking for-
ward to seeing you and Eileen in Louisville. Enclosed please
find check for the Hospitality Room. Blanche and I are
interested in attending the Unit Dinner on Tuesday, so please
include us in the plans. It will be good seeing everyone. Happy
to hear that you are doing so well. We'll see you on the dance
floor! Our best to Eileen. Fondly, M.
FROM: CHARLES ESHRICH: Jill and I have been keeping
track of your operation in the HCN and we are very glad that
your recovery is going well. We missed seeing you at the
Eastern, but we are both happy to know we'll see you in
Louisville. Keep up with your therapy and you'll be as good as
new very soon. In reply to your questions concerning a Hospi-
tality Room and a Unit Dinner, the answer is YES for both. Let
me know my share of the expense and I'll send you a check or
pay you in Louisville as you wish. The Unit Dinner could pos-
sibly be held in a restaurant if we do not have enough people for
a private dining room in the Gait House. Some restaurants have
private rooms for smaller groups. Keep up the good work but
do your therapy first and stay in good shape. It's great to be a
Hellcat!
FROM: ARTHUR AVERY: In answer to your requests in the
last HCN, Nanette and I would be glad to join a group for a Unit
Dinner. As to the Hospitality Room, I had a TIA (mini-stroke)
last week (prayers do help) and the doctor has told me that I
must not drink. We'd like the chatter, however, and visiting
with the gang. Nanette has been nagging me to write you about
my accomplishments in the Senior Games of Indiana. I won a
gold medal in Shotput, silver medals in 100 meter, 200 meter
dashes and discus in my age group. Nanette is very proud of
me. (NB FROM GG: PLEASE NOTE MY COLUMN IN LAST
MONTH'S HCN!) We'll see you and Eileen in Louisville. It's
great to be a Hellcat!
FROM: HUGH BLACK: (DIV QM): I enjoyed reading your
August issue of the HCN, relative to the Div. Hdq. Units, and
since this will be my first reunion, my wife Helen and I would
enjoy the Hospitality Room and joining you for a Unit Dinner. It
will be interesting to go back to Fort Knox because I was called
into the service in October 1941 with the 5th Armd. Div. at Fort
Knox.
FROM: JAMES LAHEY: (CCB): Your plans for the Grim-
shaw Hospitality Room and Unit Dinner sound great. Count
Ann and me in.

It is really weird sitting here two weeks before the reunion
and writing what you will read two weeks after the explosion in
Kentucky. At least I hope you are reading this in October. You
see, your rep. just suffered a severe case of the "stupids.'' This
morning I looked at the calendar and realized that the Sep-
tember page was showing and that I had already passed my
deadline getting the wonderful words to Herr Robert, the
editor. Now you know why I never got rich. Maybe it's time for
you to get a new rep?
Not many letters this month but several calls helped to
control my blood pressure. Mr. Congeniality, John Haskedakis,
called just to chat and make sure that the rep. duties were being
handled o.k. I'll never forget what fun we had with John the
first reunion he attended. His wife sort of shrugged and let him
entertain us. She knew that it was useless to try to control this
Greek when he got going. If you are in his neighborhood be
sure to contact him. You will have a delightful visit with
this guy.
Clair Mummert called to tell me he had just had a very short
conversation with Ann Gesin. All she could say was that she
was alive but her house in Miami was in bad shape. I am sure
that our heart goes out to her in her time of trouble as it does to
all those who were caught in that terrible catastrophe. Clair and
his wife had a scare recently when she had to be taken to the
hospital. They found a low blood sugar problem that they had
not been aware existed. The doctors fixed that in a hurry and
now she is o.k. We are pleased with that report.
