FAMILY PORT AIT
Well another month and an-
other year has gone by and I
imagine it has been with mixed
emotions. Let's hope and pray
that this year of 1968 will be a
more united and peaceful one.
By the way we do hope everyone
got their Christmas wishes.
The renewals are coming in
at a very good pace. As of now
we have 91 members from the
battlion. This will also give me
time to catch the latest renewals.
Let's relay a few lines from
some of the boys and girls too.
From Darwin "Lighnting" Ed-
wards, "Surely have enjoyed read-
ing about friends I've missed see-
ing for quite some time. The
pictures really surprised me —
gosh, you fellows are aging!
(HA) I've been keeping fairly
busy, farming and racing stand-
ard-bred horses. Hope to take
time to attend a 12th Arm'd Con-
vention — maybe this one in
Philly. From the pictures and
write ups in the "Hellcat News",
2t really sounds like a good time."
Well "Lightning", Hq. is going
to have quite a delegation in
Philly according from the letter
we have received from Frank
Scheehan (Hq) .
A nice letter was received
from Eleanor McConnaughay
(A), w:sh we could get the full
letter in. Instead we'll wait and
hear of their interesting Arizona
experiences at a future reunion.
By recent letters, I believe the
McConnaughays' will attend the
next possible reunion. Dick has
recoverd fully from a double
hernia operation. At present,
Mac is busy constructing well
needed homes for the Navajo
Indians.
James Beymer (A), sends his
best regards to the whole gang.
Jim is just starting to get out from
under the Beulah hurricane which
was quite extensive and devastat-
ing. Sure appreciates reading of
his good ole buddies.
Well my dear frends, it's about
that time again. Write, don't
forget to send some snapshots and
we shall see you again next
month, same time and same sta-
tion. Be good, take care and God
Bless you all.

Happy 1968
Sorry to have missed you folks
in the Phoenix, Ariz, area at
Christmas, but — we didn't go.
P4t took a job at the Weyer-
haeuser Timber Co. in Klamath
Falls, Oreo, the last of Nov. so
we stayed home.
The job of hers means a 40
mile round-trip drive every day
so, of course, it snowed two of
the first three weeks there. I
don't mind her working but this
business of chaining up the car at
6 A.M. is rediculousl
Had a very fine letter from
our Assn. Pres.. Larry Mintz.
Thanks, Larry, for your offer of
assistance and even more for your
words of encouragement.
Louis E. Fitzwater (C-43)
"Am very much pleased and
enthused with idea of a West
Coast Chapt. Have only attend-
ed one reunion so far (1965) as
they are so far away. So much
time is involved it makes it awful
hard to plan so much time all at
once. Hope we can get a very
successful chapt. here in the
West and If 1 can be of any as-
sistance up here would be more
thain proud to do so."
Larry Sprung (Sv-23) "Hey,
why didn't you put a notice in
the San Francisco paper? (I'm a
native San Franciscan and you
know the traditional S.F. - L.A.
rivalry, so forgive me.) I would
enjoy very much attending any
such get-together." (We did
send them to the Chronicle and
the Examiner. )
Russ Lower (A-1 19) "Thanks
Hooray For
Joe Mielnik
When the "Who" Who" of the
12th Armored Division Associa-
tion is written, one of the first
names to appear will be Joseph
Mielnik. His drive, his sincerity,
his downright loyalty to our
member-building campaigns has
been, and probably always will
be, a powerhouse of effort and
fortitude. Joe, who built the 495
membership from a couple dozen
souls to a formidable 1 1 I total,
is at it again .
All of the members and non-
members of the 495th were sent
a typed letter in two parts. The
first part, written in a homey
style that only Joe can produce,
contained a complete run-down
of himself and his family to ac-
quaint the readers with his back-
ground . Part two, another of
Joe's masterpieces, was a build
up of the association and a won-
derful pitch for membership.
This is the type of unit repre-
sentation that produces a good,
close knit group that responds
with dues plus an extra set of
dollars to include some "doubter"
on our rolls who needs convinc-
ing with a year's subscription to
the Hellcat News.
for the initiative you've shown in
getting this started — I'll support
it in any way I can (even bring
my wife) ."
We hope 1967 was as good to
all of you as it was to us and
pray 1968 will be even better.

With the holidays behind and
thoroughly rested after a two
week vacation. I am now ready
for anything. Even a "push-up"
contest with "Corky" Kerkorian.
Roy Davis should win in Philade-
lphia, because "Corky" has been
in the hospital with a slipped
disc. That's one thing I hate at
these reunions is seeing the fellows
that kept in condition. I have a
sneaking suspision most of these
guys diet for a month before
reunions and then wear a girdle.
Received a nice letter from
Gail and Thelma Strang. They
had a nice visit from Ed Harrison
(B) and got him into the 134th.
Another new member we picked
up is Ray Kosmicki (C) .
Had a nice letter from Barney
Galloway and he, Griff and Miss
Bonnie are doing fine. Bonnie is
a star basketball player on the
school team and it seems Barney's
job is to keep the team well fed.
Well, that was Barney's job in
the Army too, seeing the team
was well fed.
Harold J. Robb (C) wrote a
wonderful letter about the 134th
and would like the addresses of
Bob Muir, Winston Freeh and
Paul Fish, all of C Co. If you
have them send them to the
secretary.
Dale Bryha n wrote a nice letter
and we watched for him during
the Cotton Bowl TV game but we
didn't see him waving a bottle in
the stands.
Maynard Gjevre wrote a sad
note, saying his w;fe passed away.
His many friends in the 134th
offer their deepest condolences.
Milt and Theresa Fabula (B)
and the g;rls are all in excellent
health. Milt bragged about his
wife, how much she loves and
thinks of him. She bought him a
Belly Button Scratcher" for
Christmas.
Evelyn Ryan writes Francis
(B) is busy farming and building
houses (The way "Big Red" al-
ways got the G.I.'s it must be
outhouses all over the farm. )
