"We would like to say hello to
all my old buddies and would
like to see all of you at the next
reunion. We enjoy reading the
Hellcat News."
Joe Stankunas (A) — "No, I
am not dead yet but have had a
health problem for several
months. The doctor says I have
another two months to go to get
well. Guess it takes time. I love
it here in California. The weather
is just grand — now I am waiting
for winter and see what they are
like. I am thinking of moving
again as the traffic near here is
really a problem. I should be
well enough for Louisville. I took
my basic in Ft. Knox. I was in
the 8th AD after basic and then
won a toss of the coin by the
C.O. — Ft. Polk, La. or Camp
Campbell — I sure lucked out on
that one. A big hello to all the
good guys in A battery and to all
my buddies in the 494th." (Aw,
come on, Joe. Say hello to Stan
and Eddie too!)
Ham and Mary Rexroat (B) —
"We are going to try to find more
of our buddies from B/494. (Sent
all the information and help I
could to find these great Hellcats)
We have not had a good rain
since we came home from the
reunion and the weather has been
hot. Ham is selling lots of beer."
The 33rd Annual Reunion in
Louisville should be the biggest
and best reunion ever for the
494th. Make your plans now for
the time of your life! Do not wait
and keep telling yourself "I'll
make it one of these years", 1979
is the year. If you feel that it is
not the year, just take your age
when you were discharged and
add 33 years to it, then add 20
more and figure how many re-
unions you plan to attend. After
you have these totals, subtract
your wife's age, and the number
of children and grandchildren
and the number of the month the
reunion will be held to give you
the number of possible reunions.
To beat the odds, attend this
number of reunions plus five, but
do it consecutively because you
might not be able to beat the
odds!!
If you need any advice or in-
formation on what to pack or
what goes on at a reunion, write
to any of the folks who attended
the reunion in Minneapolis and
they will fill you in. See you in
Louisville!!!

DIVIDEND FOR THE ASKING
— Thanks to Gerald Mullen (Sv-
495th) a copy of the above named
title has reappeared once again
in St. Louis, Mo. and was sent to
me. Don't be taken in by this
hoax — that a Bill was passed
gjving all WW II veterans on
their G.I. insurance for each
months of service, this is a LIE.
No such Bill was ever introduced
and don't look foolish by writing
about it to anyone.
PLAN AHEAD — Louisville,
Ky., in 1979.
Q — Can a veteran use his loan
guaranty benefit to purchase a
home outside the United States?
A — Loan guaranty benefits
are available only in the United
States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin
Islands, Guam and American
Samoa.

Renewal time and the Reunion
combined to provide lots of news
this month. As usual, I'm going
to nurse them along and spread
them out over the next few
issues. So, if your tender words
aren't printed for awhile, don't
fret, they will be. Also, I asked
for a volunteer to be a back-up
Unit Rep and for someone in each
Battery to roundup news and send
it to me. The response was under-
whelming. Zilch! Gooseegg! Por
Nada! You guys think this is the
Army or something?
YE OLDE MAILLE BAGGE
HQ — Darwin Edwards chimes
in from Columbus, Ohio: "I have
quit farming, moved to the city
and working at the Municipal
Garage, it has been quite a
change. They say 'you're never
too old to start over', well, I'll
tell you for sure after I've tried
this 'City Life' for a while. So
far, so good." (We had a farmer
in our Muni Garage - he plowed
two furrows into my car)
DOOZ NO NOOZ: Walter Bible,
Dr. John Brown, Don Halsey,
Leonard Kornman, George Mich-
aels, Clarence Utley.
ABLE — Wade Shulse in near-
by Orange, CA tells us: "Pre-
sently I am recuperating from
cataract surgery on my right eye
. . it is coming along good and
hopefully will have full use of
sight again . . . Marylee is feel-
ing pretty good. Would appreciate
hearing from the old A-Btry gang
. . . regret not being able to be
at Portland and national reunion
..." (We all wish Wade a happy
recovery. I'd like to hear from
the old gang too.)
DOOZ NO NOOZ: James Bey-
mer, Will Fielding, Alien McDow-
ell, Thomas O'Malley, Richard
McConnaughay, David Sloop.
BAKER — We forgot Carl Dez-
ern's birthday last month, so H.
B. Carl. Frank Anderson from
the upper N.E. corner of the USA
has this to say: "Our youngest
daughter Wanda has just return-
ed from a three month Young
American Agricultural Special-
ist exchange program to the
Soviet Union. Wanda is a senior
at the University of Maine major-
ing in agricultural engineering.
Harry, our youngest is a Junior
at U. of Maine in the Agricultural
Mech. Program." (What did you
get in exchange for Wanda? You-
've got to watch those Rooskies,
Frank, your face could be Red.)
DOOZ NO DOOZ: John Beattie,
Norman Clark, Carl Dezern,
James Dickson, William K. Fowl-
er, Charles Jirek, Phillip Mauger,
Phil Phillips, John Vincent, Don-
ald Williamson.
CHARLIE — Fred Stillman,
our chum of yesteryear, tells a
lot: "This is problably the time
of year when you get all the
news you want . . . Olga and I
decided to drive to Minn, and
stopped off in Chicago to pick up
Joan and Hank Dojutrek . . . who
were superhosts . . . sightseeing
. . . and Hank and I spent an
evening at his VFW Post where
he'll be next Commander ... he
was on-duty bartender . . . and
we drank up a storm . . . I'm
not up to many of those nights.
In Minn, it was apparent this
was going to be the biggest turn-
out for the 495th ... we spent
much time with Erlan Hanson
and he is a fine pleasant gentle-
man. Lyle Hoosline and wife
showed up. He's in great shape-
looks the same rugged guy he
was years ago. He's planning to
retire from his railroad job and
do some traveling . . ." (I can't
resist continuing this till next
month. Fred is still a very for-
ward observer)
DOOZ NO NOOZ: Edwin Bor-
ing, Fred Durbin, Stan Eggers,
Clifford Klose.
SERVICE — We also forgot Art
Naimy's birthday last month, so
H. B. Art. Art renewed and says
he's still in the furniture busi-
ness" . . . but manage a day or
two off now and then. We have
two grandchildren, 8 and 2. Didn't
do much traveling this year but
spent some time at our cabin do-
ing a little construction up dating.
My age shows up real good after
that!" (I know what you mean
Art but it's not that it shows up;
it stays so long)
DOOZ NOO NOOZ: George At-
taway, Fred Curtis, Dr. John
Davis, Charles Graham, Chuck
McVay, David Ross, Burt Welch,
