Displaying the flag of the 12th is Warren Maue, ex-presi-
dent and chairmen of the '79 reunion.
and represent this great battalion.
I wonder if anyone in the com-
panies has a list like I recently
received from an A - member. It
is from the military paper, The
Strinking Force, date June 2,
1945, and gives a complete list,
and home address of A - Com-
pany men liberated. I have found
several men from the use of this
list already. I would appreciate
a copy of the same of the follow-
ing companies, SV., HQ., B., and
C., and with some help, we
could unite our old outfit.
A short letter from Francis
Bechner, widow of Dutch Bech-
ner, Sv., who died June 4, 1978,
of terminal bone cancer. Due to a
serious heart condition, they only
attended one Association Reun-
ion, but both enjoyed themselves
very much with their ole friends.
Thank you Francis, for letting
Dutches ole buddies know the de-
tails, as I know all express their
deepest sympathy in his passing
over the line.
Salvador Jaramillo, Hq., writes
that he is in good health again,
but had a bad scare. He com-
ments on those preceding us in
crossing the line, and how much
different our health is today, than
when we were all in service. Age
sure makes a difference.
Ruth Steinmetz, wife of Robert,
Hq., writes that Bob has come a
long way since his heart attack
of October, 75. A good diet, no
more smoking, and a walking
program has done wonders for
him. He hopes to take an early
retirement, within a few years.
I was able to locate a couple
of more from the ole days. John
Jensen, A., who was in my squad,
and who now lives in Redding,
CA., where he is an engineer.
John & I had talked by phone last
week. His wifes name is Virginia,
and they have three boys, and are
now the proud grandparents of
five grand daughters. John and I
have a lot of time to cover since
Herrlisheim, and it will be of
interest to everyone. Another who
I have located, Charles Keel, A.,
and we should be hearing a lot
from him within a few weeks.
Virgil and Vivian Matheson, B.,
talked with Edna last week, and
apoligized for not seeing their ole
friends at Minneapolis, but when
you have a dairy farm, who will
milk the cows while your away.
They send their best to everyone,
and want all to know that they
are fine. The crops are good, but
were in doubt earlier when the
heavy rains flooded everything.
Earl Fishers wife, C., writes
that they retraced his foot steps
in Europe, last August - Septem-
ber, and visited Normandy Beach.
Earl doesn't like to write, but
they do have lots of pictures. Lets
hope that he brings them to a re-
union soon, for all to see.
William Hill, C., wrote that he
and his wife, Peppy, recently cel-
ebrated their 30th wedding ann-
iversary, June 27, 1978. Congrad-
ulations to the wonderful couple,
and thank you for letting us share
it with you. Bill now has twenty-
five years service with Caterpill-
ar Tractor Company.
It usually takes me a couple
of days to get my report in, and
here in todays mail was a letter
from James LaFond, B., so I'll
pass it along to you, while the
news is fresh. Jim and Hazel
have moved to Florida, and have
a permanet residence there. Now
all you snow birds have another
place to hang your hat when it
gets to cold these winters. I im-
agine you will get a lot of com-
pany this winter, and here you
are inviting them to stop by. Jim
says that they were real lucky,
in that he and his son were able
to get jobs right away. His daugh-
ter Linda, was a bit afraid of the
school change, as the class enroll-
ment of the school she left was
eighty, against a thousand where
she is now. They like the beach,
and go quite often. They are close
to their grandson, who lives at
Charlotte, N. C., only nine hour
drive. Here is the best of luck to
you and your new adventure, and
home. Hazel is going to have a
big job keeping house for all us
snowbirds, as we know another
place to roost.
Thanks for all the dues and
boosters, of which we received
over fifty this month, but would
you believe only five had any
news, oh well you can't have
everything. Just keep those dues
coming, and I won't have to send
you a reminder. Remember, they
were suposed to be in by August
1st. I still can't believe our group
stays home this much, and don't
seen anyone.
So till next month, same place.

The following notes were re-
ceived with the dues from mem-
bers of the 23rd Tank Battalion.
The greatest news that Bob
Comery, Hq, has to offer at this
time is that his daughter Beth has
been on the Police force for 2
years as a real cop, packs a 38
and is a dead shot. Only 26 and
doing a tremendous job. Said he
hasn't had any news from Ken
Jacobsen recently.
Bill Comfort, Hq, "Appreciate
the Hellcat News very much.
Wonderful to hear about those
that we shared so many exper-
iences with in those days gone by.
Chris, thanks for your great ef-
fort."
The Owsley Costlows', A, tour-
ed Europe the summer of '77.
Saw all of the places where our
Buddies visited 34 years ago. If
time and space permit he would
like to write a short article about
it.
Houston Gantt, D, hopes to see
all of you in Louisville next July.
Paul Lozden, D, relates that
fishing is great, but catching
them is something to be desired.
Warm regards and best wishes
for good health to all.
Joe Mester, Sv, has recovered
from the heart attack that he ex-
perienced last spring. He is back
on the job as a supervisor. Misses
playing golf but hopes to swing
the clubs next season. Will try
for the Louisville Reunion.
Jim Saas, Sv, proudly ann-
ounced his election as Senior
Vice-Commander of the 25th Dist-
rict of the VFW, Department of
Penn. in May of '78. Ooo-la-la and
Congratulations from all of us.
Stay with it! ! ! !
Ed and Jean Seiner, B, along
with daughter Susan, really en-
joyed themselves at the annual
'B' Company reunion over the
Labor Day weekend. They pro-
mised to write more often.
Jim and Desie Sideris, B,
visited in Spain this last July for
3 weeks. They observed that the
American influence in Spain is
considerable. Theatres show
many American films and the
'Saturday Nite Live' music is
everywhere.
Lewin Tidwell, C, "We had Mrs.
Herman (Alice) Miller and her
family visit with us this past
June. She was the wife of James
Ward, 119th Engineers who had
died of a heart attack several
years ago. Their son David, his
wife Gloria, and their children
drove in from Ashville, Ohio,
First time we had seen them in
28 years. We had a wonderful
visit. Miller is a real nice guy".
Francis and Charlotte Weir,
Hq, enjoyed a cruise to Bermuda
this past summer. A wonderful
pleasure for mid summer.
Harry and Jennie Beeth, B,
arrived home safely from their
trip to the 'B' Company gather-
ing. Their children were there to
greet them. They wish to thank
Bill and Jean Newman, and Har-
