SOUND OFF. . .
Pride and Prejudice...
Just over 400 Congressional Medal of Honors were awarded
in WW II. This, the highest honor our Nation can bestow for
heroism and valor, has always been reserved for those who
went "over and above" the call of duty.
Extraordinary heroism and often the supreme sacrifice are
the norms for the recipients. A CMH holder is accorded the
salute, from all ranks, private to General of the Armies.
We, too, offer a salute to a deserving soldier.
It is sad to note today that seven men who performed acts of
valor under enemy fire and were recommended for the CMH
had to wait 50 years to receive their country's accolades.
Because their skin was a different color?
How sad.
They had to eat the same rations we did.
When they bled, their blood was the same color as yours and
mine.
We of the 12th ADA admire the efforts of the Carter Family:
Mrs. Mildred Carter, William A. Carter III, and Mrs. Allene
Carter, to gain the recognition for S/Sgt. Edward A. Carter II,
and only regret the ADA did not know about the situation
sooner.
We of the 12th ADA are proud to number a CMH winner in
our ranks.
We of the 12th ADA are appalled it took so long for preju-
dice and bureaucracy to catch up with reality.
How sad.

his arm and one in his hand. He took out two machine gun

ed his position. He killed six and took the other two prisoners,
using them as a shield to withdraw his unit.
