from Union Special Machine
Co. five years ago. In the sum-
mer, Walt works a few hours a
week as an overseer at the
cemetary. Both of us enjoy the
Chicago Cubs and the Bears.
Next week he has tickets for a
Cub game. At the end of the
season, we are one of many to
say, "wait till next year." Last
spring we took a ten day trip to
New Orleans. First time either
of us had been there and we
enjoyed it very much. The jazz
music was fantastic. This is a
very sad time in our lives. Our
daughter, Toni-ann died sudden-
ly in May, three days after her
40th birthday. Our hearts are
breaking. Her two children,
Nathan and Nicole, ages nine
and ten are with us this week
end. We are always anxious to
have them here. Both of us
hope that everything is going
well for all of the Hellcats and
their families."

This is the toughest column I
have had to write all year long.
First, news dribbles down to
almost nothing because of those
lazy, hazy, crazy vacation days

of summer. If that wasn't bad
enough, this is the September
issue, which means I will see
many of you in San Antonio
before you read this column.
Oh well, here goes -!
Received a delightful letter
from Dorie Ostraat Evans.
Dorie is Lew Ostraat's widow
("A" Battery). Dorie wrote to
tell me Lew's son, Randy, is
located at Brooks Air Force Base
in San Antonio. He's made a
career of the service and is
currently an Air Force Lieuten-
ant Colonel. I wrote to Randy
and invited him to visit us at
the reunion. I know those of
you who were close to Lew will
be delighted to see him. More
on this after the reunion.
Bob Burnett, "Hq", wrote to
advise his new address did not
appear in the last Hellcat News.
This is a procedural foulup for
which I have a apologize. Bob's
new address is River Point
#912, 5225 South Prince Street,
Littleton, Colorado 80123.
Phone number is (303) 797-1906.
(At least the printer got it on
the mailing plate so Bob will
get his HCN. ED.)
As of this writing, we have
47 reservations (including
spouses and guests) for San
Antonio. Still have over a
month to go for reservations,
so this could be the largest turn-
out ever.
Lost a new member who re-
joined not too long ago. Clifton
Lommis, "Sv", decided to can-
cel. Sent me a short note to say
he was sorry, but receives too
much mail that he can't keep
up with. We wish him well.
Joe Mielnik, as always, writes
a pleasant, newsy letter. Helen
(Blue Eyes. ED), and himself
can't wait for San Antonio as
do most of us. Joe makes an
excellent point when he says -
"What better way is there to
communicate than to relay any
messages to your friends
through the Hellcat News".
How true! I really wish I would
hear from more of you. How
can I impress on you that your
buddies want to know how you
are, and what you are doing.
Helen and Joe visited Colorado
Springs to see their grand-
children, and be there when
Tony and Kathy renewed wed-
ding vows. While there, they
visited Dave Vialpando, "Sv".
It was sad, because a week
before Dave lost his beloved
wife Norma. All of us send our
condolences to Dave.
On their way back from the
reunion, Helen and Joe will
stop again in Colorado for their
daughter's wedding on Septem-
ber 23. I can't help but think
how busy these t&o are. It's
just gveat!
G. B. Wiley called with some
very sad news. Charlene and
Dean Strubbe's son, Dennis,
died July 26, 1989. Dennis and
his family resided in Florida.
He was 45 and had been ill for
a short period of time. Dean
and Charlene have been ded-
icated Hellcats for a long time,
and have given much of their
time to our Association and its
functions. I am sure they would
appreciate hearing from you.
So many of you have a jump
on next year by sending in your
1990 dues. That's really good
news, and is much appreciated.
You will also note the list of
boosters this month. That's
good news too; and also appreci-
ated. It's never too early to sub-
mit your next year's dues, so
why don't the rest of you jump
on the bandwagon and sign up
for 1990 now. When I think
