hall, Roseland. I went to Rose-
land one night while in the city
after being discharged and was
informed by the doorman that
Bill had left and had joined the
New York City Police Depart-
ment. As for the query on Eddie
Yount and a possible relation
ship to Milwaukee's Yount, I
believe our No. 1 Head Hunter,
Paul Hempfling (1st V.P.) has
looked into this matter and
came up negative. However, I
will have checked up on this
further with him in San
Antone.)
In response to a letter sent
by our Exec. Sec. to Ruth Lewis,
daughter of Col. C. R. Gildart
(Division Artillery Commander)
offering her Associate Member-
ship in our association, her
reply was . . . "It is an honor to
be invited to be an associate
member of the 12th Armored
Division Association. Thank
you very much indeed for send-
ing me the "Hellcat News". I
have enjoyed them. However, I
must tell you that my father's
"Hellkitten" passed away be-
fore he did. Therefore, there is
no one left here really eligible
to receive the "Hellcat News".
I appreciated very much the
fine obituary for my father and
your sending me a copy of that.
I would enjoy seeing the Hellcat
News very much. Sincerely and
with best wishes to the 12th
Armored Division Association."
We mourn the passing on of
three of the Division Group's
Comrades, Col. Harry Lardin
(Div Hq/CCA), Wilburn "Pee
Wee" Manning (Div Hq/CCB)
and Paul Campbell (Divarty)
whose notices appeared in the
July and August issues of the
Hellcat News. To their families,
we extend our heartfelt and deep-
est sympathies.
Three other Hellcats notify
us of address changes. They
include John Bowes (Div Tns),
Lawrence Meyer and Woodrow
Edwards (Div Hq). These
changes plus all others previous-
ly mentioned always appear
elsewhere in the Hellcat News.
Thus far, those Hellcats who
have opted to pay their 1990
dues via their inclusion in the
San Antonio registration fees
are Bill McCarthy (Div Tns),
Julius "Ed" Bernstein (Div
Hq/G-5), Ray Ince (Div Hq/
CCA) and Bill Cooper (Div
Hq/CCB). All add boosters
with Ray Ince contributing a

Can you believe that Septem-
ber is here. The year after Kan-
sas City has flown by and the
San Antonio party is either
right on us, here as of now or
already past depending on the
time your H.C.N, falls into your
grimy old hands.
Got the latest registration
sheet from Maurice Glover and
it looks like the 17th will again
have a big party on Friday
night. You will get a good re-
port in the October issue.
My plan to write to two mem-
bers a day has gone the same
way as a lot of my plans, but
most handsome one.
FUTHERMORE ... By the
time you receive this issue, the
ruenion may or may not be
history. If not, I shall be attend-
ing. If so, we will tell you all
about it next issue. "IT'S
GREAT TO BE A HELLCAT"!!!
maybe, just maybe, I'll get in
gear again.
I got to thinking (sometimes
I really do) that each one of
you have only one rep to write.
That couldn't be so hard. Do
you remember the short column
for the 494 a couple of issues
back? Well just don't be surpris-
ed. It can happen here.
Did you ever think that every-
thing in the world is wrong?
Well, let me tell you, you should
get a letter from Bob and
Evelyn Cooper, Hq. Those two
make you feel like a million
dollars, and for you Hellcats at
San Antonio you can get a good
shot of "high on life" tonic from
them at the C. P. Bob is still
working for the highway depart-
ment in South Dakota and
Evelyn is constantly on the go.
She retired (big joke) from the
U.S.D.A. and now she flirts
around working with children
in a special phonics course.
Their last reunion was in Den-
ver so it is about time they
made the scene again.
Well, well, my harping for let-
ters has done some good. One
came from Howard Gillard with
the good news that he will be
"shootin' the breeze" with the
buddies at the C.P. in the Hyatt
Regency. Howard went a step
farther and sent some pics that
you find in this issue. Now
there is a friend indeed.
The proof that time is pass-
ing comes home to us with the
report of the final roll call for a
buddy. Claude C. Curey, Hq.
died on July 7th. I think that it

is noteworthy that he attended
his first Regional reunion in
Superior this year and was
looking forward to going to S.A.
in September. Let's face it men,
delaying getting together with
the Hellcat buddies is not a
good practice. Our sympathy
goes out to Madeline and we
hope that she will accept an
associate membership.
George Moss wrote about his
work trying to get new mem-
bers for the association, and
sometimes it becomes discourag-
ing but I'm sure that he will
keep trying as we all are.
Sv. Company came through
this month. Not only will we
have Grover Cunningham, Sv.,
as a first timer, but he sent
along some pictures. Wow, it is
either feast or famine and for
pictures, this month it is fest.
Do you know what Gorver has
been doing? He has been mak-
ing phone calls to Hellcats to
get them on the ball. Way to
go. He sends a message, too.
"Hi to all you guys who remem-
ber me - good or bad. It's Great
To Be A Hellcat."
Another Sv. man heard from
was Andrew Felix who wanted
everyone to know that they
would be in Texas. I guess that
Minnesota still suits them fine.
A little warm for them, but they
know that winter is not far
away.
Hey, I darn near forgot the
big news. I told ya'll if you were
buzzing along 1-70 through
Rifle, to stop off and see Lola
and me in our temporary home.
Well guess who did just that.
Joe and Gerrie Hogan, A, were
on their way to California and
they checked out our work. We
offered Joe a hammer but he
couldn't find one that fit his
paw. We had a great visit and
they left promising to meet us
on the River Walk.
I knew that I would get a
reaction when I talked about
the 17ths marching ability. I
just found out that we were
much better than the 56th or
66th.
F. George Hatt, Jr. sent an
interesting story that goes
along with one of the pictures
in this issue.
"Immediately following the
surrender of the Heinies we
went out to search for weapons,
valuables, and loose enemy
troops. Also we went to the
burgemeister of every town and
village in the Bavarian area
that our outfit occupied and
