I have had quite a few notes from
Ralph Lattig (C), Post Falls, Idaho, and
that is one guy that is really working to
find the old gang. (That is C Battery
gang) I erroneously noted in August ac-
count that Ralph is A Battery, and he
says this must be corrected as he was C
Battery. Sorry, Ralph. Anyway he has
had the following results: He sends out a
letter a week and at last writing he had
sent out 28 letters. Eight have been re-
turned by Post Office marked "Unable to
Deliver". He found that five had passed
away, and balance are unaccounted for.
He had a reply from Leo P. Weigel (C),
402 South Center, Oakley, Kansas 67748.
Also replies from four others that are al-
ready members of Assn.: Lawrence Hig-
gins, (C) Morristown, Tenn. 35357;
Leondius Thorp, (C) Grafton, West
Virginia) Francis Beckman (C) Menlo,
Kansas 67746 and Harvey Shoemaker
(C) Minneapolis, Minn. 55429. He had a
reply from Albert L. Winder's Dad
stating that Albert had been killed in an
auto accident May 6, 1961. He had a
reply from Doyle M. Akers (C) widow
saying that Doyle had passed away
October 11, 1971 of an apparent heart
attack. The others who had passed away
were Romeo J. Patti (C), Chicago and
Lloyd S. Litten (C) Indianapolis, Ind. I
had mentioned the death of Patti in news
but have no further info on cause -of
Litten's death. Good work, Ralph, but
we do regret to hear of the deaths.
Had an envelope come the other day
from old buddy Dorrell Moore (A) Ukiah,
Calif., and if you want a guy of few
words, he has to be the winner. Enclosed
was a Roster of A Battery guys number-
ing 23, two pictures taken at Springfield
Reunion, and THAT'S ALL. Dorrell, I
got the envelope, now write something.
We were glad to get the pictures and
roster. Thanks a lot.
Received a letter from Til and Bunny
Julson (B) one of our Assn. Vice-Presi-
dents from Minot, North Dakota. You
know, he must have learned to write at
the Auctioneers' School, he recently at-
tended, as he wrote quite a bit of the let-
ter himself. Said they visited with son
and daughter, Larry and Linda at
Minneapolis prior to going to Minot,
after the reunion. Being on vacation and
the crops too green to harvest, when
they got home, they took off again, this
time to Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada,
to what they call "Buffalo Days". They
spent four days there. He says it is like a
big State Fair. They must have enjoyed
it. They are now in the wheat harvest
season, and he says it is quite good. He
recounted the fun of the reunion and the
nice time they had with Harley and Lela
DeGroot (B) prior to and during the
reunion. You see, Harley met them from
the plane and they spent day before the
reunion in their home. Some fun. They
also took them along with Mel and Marie
Farrand to the Airport, Sunday, and the
Julsons and Farrands flew together to
Chicago. Bunny said she enjoyed all the
old friends at the reunion and also made
new ones. She was so glad to see John
and Dorothy Clark. They were both glad
to see Joe and Renee Boland. I guess
Bunny didn't see Herb Arenz "Rug" as
she said she didn't think he brought it. I
can assure you he had it, as he was
wearing it when I was looking for him
Friday night, and it isn't too easy to
identify him, when he has it on, except
that I saw Kay following him. Thanks Til
and Bunny.
On August 30 I had a phone call from
my old buddy Louis Lapinski. Oops —
can't call him a buddy as he game he h—
for previously referring to him as a
buddy. He says I didn't drink 3.2 with
him at the PX, thus I ain't a buddy.
Sorry about that Lapinski. I still say you
are a mighty fine buddy. Anyway, said
he just wanted to talk and I'll bet we
talked for 45 minutes. Said he has no
vices anymore, quite smoking in 1952. At
that time he had a bout with TB, but
licked it. He has a son, Charles, who is a
cop at Tarrant Junior College, and a
daughter, Mary Ann. He told me what
she was doing, but my notes got cold and
I can't deciper them. Said he was moving
into a new home in Ft. Worth, Texas. He
is still in the Western Hat making and
cleaning business. Wanted to know if
Julson ever showed us the hat he sent
him? Said he has a couple trucks and a
trailer and an 18-foot boat. He sounded
like he is really living it up. Thanks for
the call, Lapinski. Do it again.
I finally got the picture back taken at
reunion of the 1st timers from A battery.
I am sending it to Ken Warnes and hope
he will put it in the news. See if you A
Battery guys and gals can pick your-
selves out on it.
Had a nice letter from Elsie Nelson,
Emil Meyers' sister, all about Emil. On a
previous letter, she signed it, Emil,
Sharon and Elsie. Well, I didn't know
who Sharon was, so I asked and she ex-
plained that Sharon was her 34-year old
daughter and she helps her take care of
Emil. With all those girls taking care of
Emil, it stands to reason that he should
recover fast. Elsie said she had Emil to
the Doctor that day, and his blood test
was good, heart was O.K., and he was
physically O.K. Said they stopped at a
restaurant for breakfast, after the
doctor visit, and from what she said he
ate, I would much rather pay his board
then feed him. Sounded like he has a
good appetite. Emil sent a real nice
booster for the association. Elsie is very
apprehensive at this moment, as Sharon
developed a cyst on her leg and doctor
had to remove it. She was waiting for the
lab report on it, when she wrote, and you
could sense that she was concerned.
Sure hope it all turned out O.K., Elsie.
Thanks for the real nice letter.
Well, I am going to begin believing in
Santa Claus again. About a month ago
my son and I went to a neighboring
town, Milan, Indiana, for a golf game. I'm
a "Duffer" but I have more fun than most
PRO'S. Anyway, on our return home, we
came to a railroad crossing and the only
train of the day was passing. While we
were waiting, I told Mike that it
reminded me of my train trip from Camp
Chaffee, Arkansas to Camp Barkley,
Texas. That was when we swapped
equipment with the 14th Armored Div.
after Tennessee Maneuvers. Us Supply
helpers had to check the equipment out
and then serve as guards on train.
Supposed to stay with the car we were
assigned to. I was telling him that C
Battery helper and me teamed up at rear
of train and spent a lot of our time in the
caboose. And while telling Mike, I
couldn't remember the guy's name even
though we were together a lot. We
continued home after the train passed,
and forgot the conversation; I'm not sure
Mike was listening to start with. Any-
way, when we got home, there was a
letter from Ralph Lattig (C) and he re-
ported that he had found a couple more
buddies, namely, Leo Weigel (C) 402
South Center Street, Oakley, Kansas
67748 and Jeane P. Heineman (C) 2415
Zenith North, Golden Valley, Minn.
55422. Well, Jean Heineman was the
name I had tried to recall a few minutes
earlier. I sent him a letter and repeated
the above and asked if he remembered. I
received a letter by return mail with a
check for dues, and he said he did. Like
getting a letter from home. Thanks a lot,
Ralph, and a big WELCOME to you,
Jean. It was great hearing from you.
Jean gave me the following info on
himself. He has had a full and good life
since service, raised 3 boys and works
for Dayton-Hudson Corp. He has a
Broker's license and Pilots's license
(learned to fly in 1967). He is a member
of the Knights of Columbus, American
Legion and Toastmasters International
Club #3907. Says he would like to find a
few 36 hour days. Thus, he must keep
busy. He and Ralph Lattig are working
hard to find C Battery guys, and would
like for any 493rders who may know of a
former C Battery guy, to pass the word
on to them to get in touch with either
Ralph Lattig, R.R. #5, Box 1014, Post
Falls, Idaho 83854 or Jean P. Heineman,
2415 Zenith Avenue North, Minneapolis,
Minn., 55422.1 hope you hear from a lot of
guys, Jean, and if you do, pass on the
news to me. Thanks and welcome to the
association. I didn't mean to skip over
Leo Weigel, but I must get a letter off to
him right away.
I received an update sheet on A
Battery men from Dorrell Moore (A)
Ukiah, Calif., and he says he has written
each of the 23 listed names and hopes to
get more names and also news from the
23. That shows you are on the ball,
Dorrell. Real good, now write me some
news.
Received the September-October
issue of News today (Sept. 27) so I guess
we will get back on schedule. Also, had a
letter from Til and Bunny Julson. Bunny
reports that daughter Linda had a
6-pound boy yesterday (Sept. 21) and he
will answer to name Jamie Erick. Bunny
says IT IS GREAT TO BE A
GRANDPARENT, and I am sure she
means it. Said she will go to Minneapolis
next week to spend a week with Linda
and Jamie. Don't spoil him, grandma.
Our congratulations to both of you. She
also reported having a letter from Sylvia
Sunell who reported that Hugo (B) is in
Veterans Hospital, Minneapolis. He has
throat cancer and must have his voice
box removed. She says the doctors are
optimistic so let's all say a prayer for
Hugo (Swede). How about everyone, and
especially you B Battery guys, sending
him a get well card. Send it to Hugo
Sunell, V.A. Hospital, Ward 3C, 54th
Street and 48th Avenue, Minneapolis,
Minn. 55417. Thanks guys, I know
Swede will appreciate it. Bunny says
that weather in Minot is good, things are
a little dry, but generally having a nice
fall. They sent for deer license yesterday
and hope to get one this year. She says
Til is doing his thing as he has had a few
auctions. Has one at a drug store on
October 8. Thanks for the letter, Til and
Bunny.
Ken Warnes enclosed dues received

you A.G. Also, dues and nice booster from

from the Reunion attendance record.
Again I have taken more space than
alloted, so I better sign off. Keep healthy
and 30 for now.

every one of you 82nd. men that would

Albert Pounds (C) has a new address,
it is — 113 Lake Valley Road, Dickson,

restaurant and my home. Am moving to
Dickson, Tenn. Hope to take it easy for
awhile after 30 years in restaurant
business. My son lives in Nashville, just
40 miles away. My wife's Mother & Dad
live here in Dickson. Am going to visit a
couple of old Army buddies Sgt. Clyde
D. Robinson and 1st. Sgt. Curtis C.
Slaughter. (From the Rep. — Hey, Al,
how about getting Sgt. Robinson signed
up on our roster. It was through your

Also, while you are in Nashville some

long. Signed Wink Bottmiller.
And last but not least we heard from
Jack Drane, as follows: After 20 years
have retired from Gen. Elec. in
