From The Exec. Sec.
First I wish to impress upon each and
every one that we must cut back on the
cost of publishing and mailing this, our
monthly newsletter, the Hellcat News.
It can be accomplished with our
combined efforts. I will, of necessity,
cut back on the size of pictures that are
published. These will be no longerthan
two columns wide. I will also try to
abide by a rule of thumb to hold each
Unit to a maximum of two pictures
each month.
For another area of consideration
and your help. When you send short
notes or letters to me with your dues
then I will forward such notes to your
Unit Rep for his article in the next or
following issue of the Hellcat News. I
do not have, nor can I take, the time to
include your news and ideas in the col-
umn that I labor to write.
For the paper itself, I am in the
process of having the postal service
allow us to mail it under a second class
(newspaper) permit. This is a
somewhat stringent use of the mail
service as it allows us to mail very
cheap. Where third class is about 2<P
per piece we can utilize second class
for about 31/2$ per pound. This would
be 6 pieces for 31/2<t instead of 6 pieces
for 12C to 160, according to the number
of pages in the issue. The only draw-
back with the second class is that we
cannot put an enclosure in it. That is to
say that I cannot include your dues
card nor can I include a hotel reserva-
tion card. These must be separate or in
the regular printing of the paper.
The "reservation card" for the
Midwest Meeting is printed in the
January issue, as is also the
"reservation card" for the Eastern
Chapter. This issue (Feb.) will have the
"reservation card" for the Philly
reunion. The best advice I can give you
is to cut them out now and mail them in
with a deposit for at least one night. It
will help the chairmen immensely and
it will help me beyond explanation.
Your help, your cooperation, and your
consideration is direly needed in the
operation of this association.
A few things have come through that
I must include in this column because
of the time element. Such as the turkey
recipe of an earlier issue. "I used the
turkey dressing recipe and you should
have seen the mess in the oven after 1 Vfe
hours. I made the mistake of using
yellow popcorn instead of white
popcorn. The yellow corn pops twice

as large as the white so you can
imagine the mess we had to clean up.
For those of you who plan to use that
dressing, make sure you use the white
popcorn." That short note was from
Ernie of C/17.
"The cat in the tank design used by
the 12th came from Pete Varrone
A/493, while stationed in Barkley. A
darned good artist, he was first man
killed in A/493 at Singleton, France."
This news item from Radio-Sgt.
Charles Witty A/493, from Campbell to
Krumback, Germany.
A note from down under, Atherton,
Queensland, Australia. G. Wayne
Dozier A/134, "I have one interesting
piece of news. I am the proud father of
3 little girls, Sarah, aged 3, and twins,
Maree and Michele, aged 20 months." I
will echo John McNaull, if he thinks
he's making me jealous at my age then
he's got another think coming. No, but
a lot of envy.
A letter of sadness from 2nd VP Tom
Eheart. His mother passed away Dec.
12, 1976 with the funeral Dec. 15. Tom
also relates the income-outgo of the
farmers plight. Corn down $1.20 a
bushel and beans down $2.25. That
kinda explains the 70% meat in hot
dogs and hamburgers and how Kroc
can buy the Padres. The cost of
producing has doubled in the rural
areas. How about a $40,000.00 tractor.
We used three horses and a mule. (Tom
and Nola, our sincere condolences on
your bereavement. Ed)
Once again, check the "reservation
card," fill out and mail, either to Vince
Mancinelli at 8949 Leonard Street,
Philadelphia, PA 19152, or direct to the
hotel with a retainer for one night's
lodging. That Marriott covers 26 acres
of Schuykill River second bottom land

Please notify this office prior to your
moving or changing addresses. Every
time we send a copy of this letter to a
"bad" address it is returned for a cost of
25<P per piece. We must cut down on
this waste. I must have the correct
building number, the correct
apartment number, the correct rural
route and box number, the correct zip
code. The postal service is getting
more and more stringent in this area.
They also see where they can legally
pick up a few extra shekels from the
unknowing taxpayers. US. GGM
