BOOSTERS
Harry Wainwright (D)
Wm. Hawkins (HQ)
HQ: Brigadier General Sher-
burne Whipple Jr. (Answer to
note from Ken Warnes asking
what unit he was in.) "I had the
distinct honor of commanding the
92nd Cav. Ren. Sq. during its
combat assignments in France
and Germany. I regret that I will
be unable to join you in St. Louis
in July, but extend best wishes to
the Association and all members
who make it."
HQ & SV Troop: Bill Hawkins -
"The Dear Lord has.been good to
yours truly again. I was operated
on February 22nd for prostrate
and all tests were negative. It
sure was a relief to the Hawkins
family. We hope to make it to
Nashville in May, but don't know
about St. Louis in July. Wish you
lots of luck in the future. Hang in
there with the Boy Scouts. I
learned a lot being a Boy Scout.
Some of the greatest experiences
of my life were in the Scouts."
(Bill is back in Columbus, Ohio for
the summer. He also sent his dues
and a booster.)
C Troop: Harry E. Wainwright
- "Phyllis and I have sent in our
reservations for St. Louis and will
also be going to the West Coast
Chapter meeting on May 29th."
(Ken says that your address will
be correct in future rosters.)
D Troop: Clinton A. Carroll -
"Everything went to hell around
here. The Bunker Hill Mine Zinc
Smelter Plant shut down. 2100
men out of work. I had worked in
the mine 23 years." Henry C.
LaRue - Reported that Robert C.
Hawthorne had not been receiv-
ing the HCN.
F Troop: Willard Strolberg -
His wife reported that he had
missed some copies of the HCN.
(You should have received a
bundle from Ken by now.)
NOTES & STUFF
It was noted that there was a
news blackout in effect in A
Troop, B Troop, E Troop and
Medical Det. this period. (They
were no doubt engaged in Top
Secret operations.)
I was unable to attend the
Eastern Chapter Reunion at
Stroudsburg last weekend and
therefore can't tell you who did.
All my planned communications
went out. "Spike" Simons had said
that he planned to be there. I
called the hotel at an appropriate
hour and was told that he was not
registered. I had asked Cono
Sideri (Div. Hq.) to bring me back
a roster of those who attended.
He was promised a copy, but
found on Sunday morning that the
ones with the list had folded up
their tent and moved out smartly.
Cono did report to me that a good
time was had by all and that the
92nd was well represent-
ed.
Those of you who have been
members may find it hard to
realize that after these many
years there are eligibles out there
who have never heard of the 12th
Armored Division Association.
Believe it or not, you may be in
contact with a former 12th
Armored Division member who is
not a member of the Association.
You may meet or talk regularly
and you may assume that he is a
member. Ask your buddy if he is
a member. If he is not, try and
sign him up. If the subject is not
brought up, he may never know
that we exist. (Don't assume.
Remember to assume makes an
ass/u/me.) Harold Keefer (SV714)
was talking with Henry Florida
(F/92) At the VFW in Monaca,
PA and found that Henry didn't
know about the Association.
Harold dropped me a note. I
called Henry and gave him the
details about Ken Warnes and we
have a new member.
By this time you have had a
chance to look over the offerings
of our St. Louis Entrepreneur,
John Critzas and his hard working
crew. Don't be left out. Register
now for the fun filled events.
Spaces are going fast. (Over 400
are already registered and con-
firmed.)
I called John this morning for
an update on 92nd personnel with
firm reservations as of 6 May 82
and found the following accounted
for: (Listed in order of receipt)
Eldon H. Kohler, Thomas and
Jeanne Conry, Harry and Phyl-
lis Wainwright, "Lucky" Likens,
Richard and Ollie Nichols, Ger-
hard and Evelyn Obermueller,
Warren C. McCarson, Frank J.
Bauer, Dolore A. Trudeau, Robert
S. Koch, Gilbert C. Haro, Joseph
J. Barnack, Kurt Fischer, John
Stoner, John 0. Lott, Bernard
Bombasaro, Marne J. Humbert
and John R. Rarick. It's not too
late to join the festivities. How-
ever, it's later than you think. Act
today!
Every June I'm reminded of my
stint as the Logistician on the
Staff & Faculty of the U.S. Army
Finance School. In an attempt to
raise the couth of the Army
financiers the Commandant had a
program of borrowing paintings
from the museum in Indianapolis
for display at the Finance School.
One June the borrowed painting
depicted contented cows in a
deep, lush pasture and was titled
"Knee Deep in June." One night
some wit added a card to the
display case reading: "Or Up to
Your A- in Grass." This was the
end of the art education program.
(Keep your hay new mown.)
I would remind all of you that
this is your column. News is the
fuel that makes it go. Some of you
have been too modest, too busy,
or too lazy to do your part in
providing fuel. Back in Rochester
when I volunteered to manage
this operation I told those present
that I intended to fill a column one
way or the other. It is only fair
that I share my plans to use the
space with those of you who
couldn't make Rochester. The
prime plan was to fill the column
with the copious news that the
membership would provide. If
Plan A failed then Plan B was to
