The awarding of The Texas Historical Building Medallion is an important part of the program of
the Texas State Historic;ll Survey Committee in preserving the historic' ' al heritage of Texas. The pres-
ence of the Medallion designates the structure as worthy of recognition by the State of Texas as an
authentic house or building of historical and cultural significance to the State and community in which
it exists, therefore meriting preservation.
The Medallion is fourteen inches in diameter and is made of cast aluminum with swedish steel effect.
The stars are red, white and blue. Each Medallion has a separate number which is recorded and kept with
the complete history of the building in the official state records.
Any individual or historical group may make application through the County Historical Survey
Committee or Texas State Historical Survey Committee. Final approval rests with the State Historical
Survey Committee.
The Texas Historical Building Medallions are placed and paid for locally. The cost of the Medal-
lion (including transportation) is $14.75. Checks are to be made payable to the Texas Historical Foun-
dation upon application. If the building is not approved by the State Committee, the check will be
returned.
The Medallion is an award of merit. It serves to remind the community and inform the tourist of
the unique culture and history of Texas. These buildings will be listed in the new Official State Histori-
cal Tourist Map.
