gave two performances, one in the

which were well attended. As ad-
vertised one of the features was the

entertainment was very creditable and
some features as good as are given in

of Austin, are speding the week here
with Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Gass and
family. Mrs. Standifer is a niece of

Miss Marilla Holliday expects to. be
in Palacios after Sept. 15, ready to

Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Stadig moved
to their cottage on Morton Ave., Mon-
day. W. H. Tabor has rented the
Siadig farm and will move to it with-
in the next few weeks.
At Ennis, a man who bet Sterling
would win by 125,000 not only wheel-
ed the winner up and down Main St.,
but stopped four times to buy his

A. G. Skinner and son, Everette,
spent the week end in Houston, re-

Cotton fields are being pretty well
picked over.
The Union Sunday School, conduct-
ed by Mrs. Pearce of Francitas, was
held as usual Sunday, Aug. 31, with
good attendance and interest.
Our new school building is complet-
ed. and ready for opening of school
next Monday, with Miss Claxton, of
Victoria, as principal and Miss Mary
Pearce of Francitas, assistant teacher.
On Saturday afternoon the old
school building will be auctioned off
to the highest bidder, also some left-
over building material.
The new school building will be ded-
icated Saturday night, Sept. 0th, with
a community program. Everybody, in-
vited.

O. E. Sailor underwent a successful
operation for kidney stones at the
Turner hospital in Houston Tuesday
morning. Mrs. Sailor is there with
him and will stay until he is able to
come home.
Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Robinson went
to Frederick, Okla., the latter part of
last week in response to a message
informing them of the serious illness
of his mother, who had suffered a
stroke of paralysis.
Mrs. Chas. Schicke of Carancahua
entertained as her guests for the past
two weeks her son and wife, Mr. Wm.
L. Scicke of New York City. They
left for home Monday, accompanied
by his sister, Miss Helen.
Wayne and Watley Newsom were
here the first of the week visiting
their brother, Prof. Ralph Newsom
and wife. They were accompanied by
their sister, Miss Katherine, who re
mained and will attend school hero the
ensuing year.
Miss Stella Talbot, and Herschel
Stark were united in marriage Tues-
day night at the home of the officiat-
ing minister, Rev. M. C. Stearns. The
young couple will make their home in
Palacios and have the best wish as of
their many friends.
Mrs. C. A. Newton and children re
turned to their home in San Ai tonio
Thursday after a visit with her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. William i and
family. They were accompanied by
Mrs. H. B. Farwell, who is enjoying a
stay in the Alamo City.
J, L. Speckman, of Minneapolis,
Minn., accompanied by T. Agens, of
Arkansas City, Kans., came in Tues-
day to visit his aunt, Mrs. L. A
Wright, and other relatives. This is
their first visit to South Texas and
they are more than pleased with Pa
lacios.
Mr. and Mrs. R .T. Phillips, of
Winficld, Kans., are here visiting his
mother and aunt, Mrs. Parkins and
Miss Martha Wright at the Iuka
House. Mr. Phillips disposed of his
business in Winfield two months ago
and has come to Palacios for an ex
tended stay.
The Al G. Barnes circus, an entire
ly new set up in every way, will show
in Bay City Tuesday, Sept. 16. The
first advance agent was here Satur-
day. The circus will use the same
lots that were wsed last year, the
Dr. A. S. Morton block in South Bay
