The City Council should pass
an ordinance prohibiting citizens
who own chickens from allowing
them to roam at large, destroy-
ing garden truck and annoying
others. It is evident that the
people owning chickens are of
the opinion that their fowls have
special privileges in the line of
foraging for food. This ordi-
nance, if permit sable under the'
Constitution, should bo passed
at the earliest possible- moment.
People are planting war gardens
at the direction and upon the so-
licitation of the Food Adminis-
tration and should be assured of
freedom from depredating pests.

KEPT HER AWAKE
The Terrible Pains in Back ead
Sides. Cardui Gave Relief.
Marksviile, La.—Mrs. Alice Johnson,
Of this place, writes: "For one year!
suffered with an awful misery in my back
and sides. h\y left side was hurting me
all the time. The misery was something
awful.
1 could not do anything, not even sleep
at night. It kept me awake most of the
night... 1 took different medicines, but
nothing did ihr any good or relieved me
until 1 took Cardui. . .
I was not able to do any cf my work
for one year and I got worse all the time,
was confined to my bed off and on. I got
so bad with my back that when I stooped
down 1 was not able to straighten up
again ... 1 decidcd 1 would try Cardui
.. . By time I had taken the entire bottle
1 was feeling pretty good and could
straighten up and my pains were nearly
all gone.
I shall always praise Cardui. I con-
tinucd taking it until I was strong and
well." If you suffer from paius due to
fema'.e complaints, Cardui may be just
what you need. Thousands of^-womcn
who once suffered in this way now praise
Cardui for their present good health.

A Good Citizen
A good citizen is one who sup-
ports his Government in trying
times like these now confronting
us, and who, dees it without
reservation.
The Southern Pacific Lines are
endeavoring to do their share,
and to maintain their obligations
to the Government and to the
people with justic to both.
We want the co-operation of
our patrons in increasing the ef-
ficiency of our service in every
direction, for only by co-ordinat-
ing our efforts and by a sym-
pathetic support of men on<
measures can American institu-
tions succeed and the American
flag typify a freedom, in support
of which we are now prepartni
to send our youth to the firin
line in Belgium and France.
