A Word for the Civic League
It was a privilege to be pres-
ent at the called meeting of the
Civic League in the handy Cham-
ber of Commerce building Satur-
day afternoon. Everything was
spic and span and the chairs on
both sides of the room were all
occupied by good looking and
earnest looking women.
Miss Caddy Wolf, the chosen
president, was in the "chair"
and Miss Nora Hayes was doing
duty as Secretary. The consti-
tution and by-laws were read by
Mrs. Grant and if laws, as read,
are enforced, Palacios will be a
model citv. The several com-
mittees were named and their
duties assigned. The parks-
city park and tourist park—are
to be attended to, cleaned up,
trimmed up and beautified. The
Boy Scouts are enlisted in the
cause and are' to be the bitter
enemies of dead grass, scraggy
limbs of trees, all trash and
brush, unless a pile or two is left
to beautify the landscape by be-
ing covered with honey suckle
or moon vine. The names of the
committees as were called seems
just the ones needed—Finance,
membership, and so forth.
If the boys, who have helped
to clean up the school grounds
and make a drive-way could have
heard the praise given them,
they would have felt well paid
for their work.
When the meeting of the
League closed Mrs. Boiling turn-
ed it into a P. T. A. meeting for
a few minutes and suggested
that the P. T. A. give substan-
tial aid in dollars and cents to
help beautify the high school
campus.
The nice weather and the good
cause made the meeting a most
pleasant one. A Member.
Dr. Johns and family are leav-
ing very soon to make their fu-
ture home in Piano, Texas. He
has proved to be very successful
in his practice in this community
and the many friends of the fam-
ily wish them as much success
and prosperity in their home as
they received here.—Glen Floar
