Rites Held Wednesda"
For Karl A. Wickham,
Former Councilman
Funeral services for Karl Allen
Wickham, a former city council-
man, were held at Our Redeemer
Lutheran Church Wednesday, Jan-
uary 29, at 2 o'clock in the after-
noon with Rev. John Shultz officiat-
ing. Interment was in the Palacios
Cemetery.
A resident of Palacios most of
his life, Mr. Wickham was born
April 12, 1901, in Galveston, a son
of jE. A. and Minnie' Fisher Wick-
ham. He passed away Monday, Jan-
uary 12(7, in the Citizens', Memorial
Hospital in Victoria where he had
been a patient for several weeks.
Ae is survived by his wife, of
Palacios, three daughters, Mrs.
Louis Steinhagen of Houston; Mrs.
Vicjtor Scholfield of Augusta, Kan-
sas and Mrs. Leroy Brown of Vic-
toria; one son, Karl Allen Wick-
ham, Jr. of Palacios; two brothers,
Rev. L. W. Wickham of Rosebud
and George Wickham of Grayville,
111. and a half-brother, Lenai'd Sex-
ton of Springfield, 111.
The purple finch is not at all
purple. The male is of an old rose
color while the female has the gen-
eral sparrow-like appearance.

Mrs. Paul Talmadge,
Charitable Worker,
Buried Tuesday P. M.
Funeral services for Mrs. Leo-
nora May Talmadge were held at
2 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, at the
First Presbyterian Church with
Rev. Richard E. Stone officiating.
Interment was in Hawley Ceme-
tery.
Born June 20, 1901, in Wheeler,
Indiana, she had been a resident of
Matagorda County for 23 years.
She was a member of the Presby-
terian Church, an active worker
with the Salvation Army, Welfare
Board, Red Cross and other chari-
table organizations.
She passed away at 11:30 a.m.
Sunday in St. Luke's Hospital in
Houston where she recently under-
went surgery.
She is survived by her husband,
Paul L. Talmadge; one daughter,
Mrs. James (Colleen) Penland and
one granddaughter, all of Palacios.
Mass Of The Angels
Held Here Monday For
Cynthia Hernandez, 5
The Mass of the Angels was held
at St. Anthony's Catholic Chui-ch
Monday at 10 a.m. for Cynthia
Hernandez with Rev. Michael Har-
rold officiating. Interment was in
the Palacios Cemetery.
Cynthia, 5-year-old daughter, of
Mrs. Genova Hernandez and the
late Fred Herrondez, died Saturday
in Wagner General Hospital.
She was born March 7, 1958 in
Galveston.
Survivors include her mother,
four stisters, Mrs. Julie Martinez,
Mrs. Esmeraldo Garcia, Virginia
and Rachel Hernandez all of Pa-
lacios.
