Oyster Shell, Lime
and Sulphur-
By DR. T. F. DRISKILL
In my article of last week I
am made to say, that forty
pounds of Sulphur to the acre
should be used, when it should
four hundred pounds
to the acre, with two to four
tons of oyster shell lime to the
acre.
After a little correspondence
Mr. Biesel, of the Gulf Sulphur
Company kindly dunateu to the
writer a ton for experimental
purposes. Of course we had to
beai the expense of delivering
it here.
By a little rustling the follow-
progressive gentlemen
id to join me in this exped-
ient, as directed by C. C. Cun-
ningham. the agronomist: E. L.
Hardy, A. R. Hillyer, Lacy
Pybus, Earle Grant, Mr, Collins,
Mr. Watts, J. W. Crawford. Mr.
Holliday, Mr. Harshbarger, J. E.
Baldwin, Mr. Kinard, and one
lady, Mrs. S. J. Pyubs. As we
are to report at the proper time
to our Agronomst, it is devoutly
hoped that those parties will
broadcast the oyster shell lime,
properly distribute the sulphur
and work it into the soil. This
combination destroyes the "sour"
condition in the soil, that it is
classed as a fertilizer of consid-
erable value. The sulphur, in
some states, has long since pass-
ed the expermental stage, and
as it is remarkable that our
. farmers have not tested it out.
We have previously alluded to
the fact that our Palacios sec-
tion needs lime, and if the intro-
iuction of sulphur will prevent
if, the nemato and root rot, and at
the same time be an excellent
■jsr fertilizer, I again repeat, that
I not one car load of our finely
pulverized oyster shell lime
should leave this section until
I every acre of land is served with
t its share. While Central Texas
is boasting of her rock lime, and
thousands of tons of it are being
i used by the farmers, \Ve are
Crank to say, that it will not
Eompare in fertility and in eor-
rrecting soil conditions with our
home product.
FULL CARLOAD OF
DYNAMITE ARRIVES
f
V ■
A solid carload of dynamite ar-
rived here yesterday to be used
in prospecting for oil in the sur-
rounding territory. The freight
on this car amounted to more
than $1000. It is evident that
the wise ones have reasons
to believe that there is a great
field here somewhere. Here's
hoping they will find it soon.
The quest for the long talked
of "mother pool" believed to
exist at some place in this coun-
ty seems to be on in earnest and
widespread interest is being
manifested in this field.—Bay

wheat, specially blended. It is packed in
dust-and-damp-proof Saxolin sacks. Order
