The Library Board at its well-
attended meeting last Saturday
decided to put on a campaign for
new members. Next week there
will be a tea—watch the post-
office for the bulletin—and other
efforts will be put forth. Get
your dollar ready and make the
work of the committees a pleas-
ure. Our library, and it is our
library, should have at least 200
paid yearly members. Then there
would be some funds to get new
books and make some needed im-
provements.

winter in the City-by-the-Sea,
They are here for the benefit of
Mrs. Davis' health.
Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Meeker, of
Larned, Kansas, came last Satur-
day and will spend a month in
our delightful climate where the
January roses rival those of June
in other climates. Mr. and Mrs.
Meek spent several weeks here
ten years ago and notice many
changes among the most notice-
able being the blank spaces left
by the fire feind. They notice
great improvement too especially

feast this week, the Roy E. Fox
Theater Company, a troupe of
fourteen people, being here the
entire week. They put on good
clean plays that are well acted.
That the public is pleased is
showed by the packed house that
greets each performance. A
novel feature of the entertain
ments, is the acting by little
Miss Hazel Fox, who is less than
than four years old.

STRETCH OF MODEL HIGHWAY
Idea! Section of Lincoln Road Under
Construction in Lake County,
Indiana, Near Chicago.
A stretch of model road, to be known
as the ideal section of the Lincoln
highway, Is under construction In Lake
county, Indiana, to the southeast of
Chicago.
Besides a 40-foot road bed ten inches
thick, designed to carry heavy traffic,
provisions are made for beautlflcation
of the roadside in boulevard fashion.
a lighting aystem Is to bo Installed.
The entire cost will range approxi-
mately $100,000 a mile.
This strip of roadway Is centrally
located, as far as truffle on the Lincoln
highway Is concerned, and Is intended
to serve as a model for the gradual
evolution of the entire route as traffic
volume Increases. The Lincoln High-
way association will provide the funds
required over the usual costs per mile.

Association Formed to Build Hard-
Surfaced Road Between Chi-
cago and Omaha.
The proposed Chicago-Omaha Short-
Line Highway association, formed In
Des Moines, Iu., proposes to build a
road that will follow the air mall
route between Chicugo and the Ne-
braska metropolis. The highway, ac-
cording to plans, will be a hard-sur-
faced highway. Robert N. Carson of
Iowa City, Ia„ has been chosen secre-
tary and general manager.
