Sidewalk Fair winners announced
The Sidewalk Fair held
Saturday, September 24
developed into "the best
one we've had yet" in the
opinion of several of the
Chamber of Commerce
directors, sponsors of the
event.
The weather was "on
its best behavior" with
sunny skies and a brisk
wind from the south. Ap
proximately 48 booths
showed wares in a gener
ous variety, and 17 mer
chants gave attractive
prizes.

'83 tax notices to be mailed Oct. 1
Tax notices for 1983 will
be mailed October 1, ac
cording to Betty Viertel,
chief appraiser for Shack
elford County.
The notices will contain
taxes for the Albany Inde
pendent School District,
City of Albany, Shackel
ford County, West Cen
tral Texas Municipal
Water District, and
Shackelford County Hos
pital District.
The statements will not
show taxes levied by the
Moran Independent
School District or the City
of Moran. Those state
ments will be mailed at
the same time, but will be
issued separately.

combined statement may

The Moody Foundation
of Galveston has awarded
Texas Opera Theater two
grants totaling $150,000
to help the touring com
pany match a challenge
grant from the National
Endowment for the Arts
and present its entire
10th anniversary per
formance season in the
1894 Grand Opera House
in Galveston's historic
district.

May, 13 percent; and in
June, 15 percent. In July,
18 percent interest will be
added, as well as a 15 per
cent late fee. For each
month thereafter, the in
terest will increase by
one percent, with the 15
percent penalty remain
ing.

A large number of Albany and area
residents combed the downtown streetj
of Albany Saturdoy for bargains and
craft items during the fall Sidewalk Fair
sponsored by the local Chamber of Com
merce. Laura Holson fingerprinted a
patient Christy Bond (top photo) at the
fingerprinting booth sponsored by Alpha
Zeta Epsilon sorority, while across the
street, students of Sara Wilson (left)
demonstrated their tumbling expertise.

music could be heard as the Western
Swing band played for anyone who
wanted to listen against the rustk. set
ting of the Picket House in the bank
park. C. A Boles and Lewis Cox showed
