2001 fundraising drive and elect
new directors during a 5:30 p.m.

Albany Chest chairman Don-
na Schkade asked Tuesday that
all current directors contact her
prior to the August 28 meeting '
to Id her know if they will be
able to attend, as well as av
knowledge whether they will be
able to serve on the board dur-
ing the upcoming year.
"It is very important that all
board members be present for
the meeting if at all possible,"
said Schkade. ' v

Funding Requests
A deadline will be set during
the August 28 meeting to re-
ceive requests, for funding from
the upcoming drive.
"We need to have all these in
by mid-! .epternber, but we would
really appreciate it if everyone
could start getting their letters
in now," said Schkade.
All organizations wishing to
receive an allocation from the
Albany Chest must submit a
written request to the Chest,
she emphasized.
The letters may be .mailed to

Bank.
After ;ill the requests have
been n viewed, a goal will be set

get underway.
The board will mail letters to
previous Chest donors and new
prospects by the end of Septem-
ber to kick off the 2001 cam-
paign. .
New community sign
A new policy regarding the
community sign located on the
courthouse square has been for-
mulated by members of Alpha
Zeta Epsilon sorority, the group
that has maintained the sign for
more than two deeade: and who
constructed the new sign 11
years ago. The new'policy will
take effect September 1, 2001.
The sorority met Monday,
August 6 to update the proce
dures for placing messages on
the board. Because of continu-
ing maintenance, costs, along
with the expense of purchasing
new letters and planned future
lighting, the group will now
charge a nominal fee to place all
. types of messages on th e sign In
the past, messages about com-
munity events were free, with a
fee charged only fpr personal
messages.
The new policy is as follows:

The bimonthly distribution of
commodities by Shackelford
County has been scheduled for
Thursday, August, 30, according
to county employee Susan
Morrison.
The giveaway will take place
as usual at the Albany Youth
Center, but the time may change
for the August distribution,
Morrison stated. She asked that
participants in the program
chock next Week's newspaper for
more details. .
Applications for new part in

Morrison's office on the second
floor of the Shackelford County
Courthouse. More information

Eligibility Requirements
The chart below provides the
income limits for households
applying to participate in the
Texas Commodity Assistance
Program.
Gross income is used to deter-
mine eligibility, except for farm-
ers and self-employed house-
holds who can qualify based on
net income (total income minus
expenses).
Also, a family tn, experi-
ences unexpected and unavoid-
uium of 15 occasions within the
calendar year.

there is a $5 extra fee, giving the
opportunity to the renter to use
the sign without sharing with
another renter. The maximum
for 'exclusive usage' is two days.

"Dinner & Conversation" will
be heldon Monday, August 20 at
5:30 p.m. at the Perini Ranch
Steakhousein Buffalo Gap. This
dinner, hosted by Texas Mid-
west Community Network, will
provide updates on issues re-
cently addressed in the State
Legislature on economic devel-
opment issues, water issues,
prison issues and rural state
agency status. The cost is $20
and you must register with
Christine by Friday, August 17.-
• Tourism Seminar
Christine Brockman attended
a workshop on tourism hosted
by the Texas Historical Com-
mission in Kerrville last Thurs-
day.. It was a very successful
workshop offering very helpful
information. Brockman also won
the "big" door prize, a trip to go
white Water rafting in West Vir-
ginia, given away by the main
speaker at the workshop.
• Community wide Garage Sale
The Chamber sponsored Com-
munity-Wide Garage Sale will
be held Saturday, September 15,
beginning.at 7:00 a.m. For more

Swimming pool to close Sunday
Local swimmers are encour-
aged to stop by Webb Park for
their last splash of the summer
on Sunday, August 19 when the
Albany City Pool will officially
close its gates for the 2001 sea-
son.
The pool has been open since
