The Albany 11 and 12 year
old All-Stars made it to the cham-
pionship around ofthearea tour- „
nament this week before falling
to Clyde.
The local All-Star squad suf-
fered both losses in the double
elimination tournament to
Clyde Clyde will advance on to
the next level competition
The tournament was held in
Albany for second yeaj, drawing
players and parents from
Abilene, Clyde and Bain 1 The
first rounds were played July I
Albany opened the tourney
with an 11 -10 win over Dyess on
July 2, but lost in the second
round to Clyde, 8-1. Albany ad-
vanced to the finals by defeating
Abilene Western, 6-3 on July 5.
The Albany All;Stars' faced
Clyde again in the champion-
ship round, losing by the same '
8-1 score that decided their first,
meeting.
•Albany fell behind by five runs
in the first inning against Dyess,
and1 trailed 7-1 in the third be-
fore rallying with six runs to.tie
. the game in the fourth Spencer
Balliew scored three runs, for
Albany, followed by Tim VViloth,
Blake Brewster and Mike VViloth
with two each'. Trey Davis and ■
Jon McBride had one run apiece, <
- Pitchers for Albany, in. the
opener' were Brewster, Spencer
Balliew and Tom Hill.
During1 the -July 3 game
against Clyde, the lone nun was .
scored by Brewster Alex Rod-
riguez pitched the game for'Al-
bany The score remained 1-1
after four' innings, but Clyde
broke loose with two runs in the
fifth and five more, in the top of .
the sixth.
Albany stayed alive in the
tournament with a third round
win over Abilene Western on
Monday All 'six of their runs
came thanks to home runs Alex
Rodriguez.knocked in a home-,
run. followed by Trey Davis with
a grand slam that boosted the .
lead to 5-0 .-VI so scoring on Davis' .
