Advertising: Shackelford
County.
We are making a trip each
week to east Texas, in the in-
terest of Shackelford county.
Four years ago, when we as-
sumed the management of The
Albany News, we pledged to
the people in our first editorial,
that we would settle Shaekel-
ford couj ^y with thrifty farm-
ers. W have worked hard,
and aga net great odds for this
one object—and now a brighter
day is dawning and the old
thread-bare objections are fad-
ing. If we can stay in the field
four months, and we are bless
ed with a good crop this year,
and we are going to have it, as
all indication points that way
—we can put a 1000 families in
Shackelford in the year 1906.
The peple down east say this
"We can get from 50 to 100 dol-
lars per acre for our land here
and go out west and buy
enough land to give all our
children a home." They all
ask us this question: How
about the season out there?
We answer them thusly: It
does not rain as much in the
west Texas as it does down
here—if it did, our lands would
be worth as much or more than
yours—but the rain fall is suf-
ficient to make plenty of every
thing if you are willing to pull
off your coat and work. Now
in conclusion, we say to all
who are interested in the de-
velopment of our county; if
condition are favorable this
year, the greatest tide of im-
migration in history will come
west this fall, and the locality
that presents its claims to the
the prospective immigration
will be the locality that will
catch the floodtide.

To have a checking
account at the bank is
not a hobby. There is
reason in it. It is wise and
it pays.
•J" You can pay your bills
with checks which we return
to you. Each check is a re-
ceipt in full for every dollar
you pay out.
TYour check book shows
just where the money went.
This is a good system of
book-keeping. You can
have your bank book bal-
lanced at any time; it should
be balanced at least once a
month.
^[Sometimes your memory
fails you—you forget wheth-
er or not you paid a certain
bill at the store. If you
kept a checking account and
paid your bills by check,
you could turn to your
checks—they will show the
bills you paid, the date and
the amount.
