Several members of the Albany
Golf Club were present to field
questions! raised by councilman Bill
Farmer
Farmer stated that he basically
just wanted answers .to questions
oil how the golf course operates. It
was reported that the club, which
operates the coursg for the city,
reimburses the city an average of
. $J ,000 per month, towards the cost
of city employees who maintain
t he grounds.
"I don't have anything af,: jst
thegolf course," said Farmer "It is
a'nice course, but could the club
pick up some of minor expenses?"
The council was divided on the
matter
"I think that it is one of the most
beneficial services we provide in
the way of parks and recreation,"
said Bob Davis. "1 want, us to have
a good city, and that includes
having a good golf course.''
Club TTiembrrs pointed out to
Farm<>r, who started his first term
in office last spring, that the club
raised $180,000' to purchase the
course when the lease ran out and
then gave the .facility to the city It
was also noted, that mahv im
provements have been made re
cently, including const ruction of a
new club house
"I have no intention of hurting
.the golf course, I just wanted some
questions answered," said Farmer
Club member Buford Salter-
stated that having a golf course is
"part of the total picture of having
a good city — it is part of the quality
of living w e enjoy in Albany .'

Albany was well represented in
Irving last Saturday at the Irving
Arts Center.
Everyone in this community
should feel proud and appreciative
of all those who put the event to-
gether. It, was no easy task to
transport all the merchandise, food,
Fandangle sets, and people.
It was certainly a community
effort, and a great success. Con-
gratulations on a job well done!

3 choir students compete
Three Albany High School mu-
sic students recently auditioned for
the district choir in the all state
competition, with Melissa Oden
qualifying as an alternate to the
regional contest
The auditions were held Sep-
tember 17 in Abilene, according to
local choral director Tannine
Burger. This is only the second
year that Albany students have
tried out for the all-district group.
Others who auditioned were
Michele Grigsby and Laura Green.
Burger explained that all par
ticipants prepare the same three
pieces of music with taped acconi
pannnent. At the auditions, judges
may start, the tape at any point and
contestants are expected to find
their entrance.
As an alternate, Oden will
compete at the regional level Oc-
tober 15 if one of those chosen for
the all-district choir is unable to
attend.
The AllS choir director added
that, there will be a large group of
junior high students, which in-
■ eludes ninth graders, auditioning
for the junior high all region choir
November 5.
Laura Green qualified for the
junior high chorus last fall.
