Girls get golf season
The Albany Lady Lions gftlf
team kicked Off the 1998 golf
season last week with a tourna-
ment in Sweetwater.
Of the 15 teams competing at
the tournament, the local girls
placed 12th with overall team
scores of 446 and 445 for the
two-day event.
"I though the girls did fine,"
commented Coach Tommy
Terrell. "The competition at the
Sweetwater tournament was
better this year than it has been
and most of the schools entered
were 4A and 5A.
"We wasted a lot of shots
around the green, but that will
change with more practice. i
thought the kids performed well
for their first, time out."

Alison Bennett - 107/105; Lee
Tidwell - 116/114, Robin Pic-
quet - 112/127, Jennifer Edmi-
son - 121/129.
The boys team began play
Tuesday with the second team
traveling to Anson for a tourna-
ment. Results were not avail-
able at press time.
FHA class plans service project
The Life Management Skills
class of the Future Homemak-
ers of America chapter met Feb-
ruary ltf in the Albany High
School home economics depart-
ment.
Class officers include presi-
dent Mundi McElrath, vice
president of programs Cassie
Mayes, vice president of projects
Lupita Villalobofl, secretary
Brittney Winters, and reporter
Katy McCarthy.
During the meeting, Mayes
gave a program on the mission
and purposes of FHA,
The chapter discussed set-
vice projects for the next, month,
and McElrath appointed a spe-
cial committee todevisea project
for local n ursing home residents.

Two Albany students were
among those who earned de-
grees from Tarleton State tini
versity (lining the December
commencement exercises held
December 19 in Stephenville.
Michelle Lynn Heirman re-
ceived a master of science de-
gree in agriculture, and Stephen
Scott Kayga was given a bach
elor of science degree in crimi
nal justice. Both are yraduates
of Albany High School.
Heirman is the daughter of
Alan and Mary Heirman.
Kayga's parents are Steve and
Linda Kayga.
The December ceremonies
marked the first time Tarleton
conducted graduation on Fri-
day, and three ceremonies were
held to accommodate the large
number of candidates.
