Last week, Pre-Kinder-
gartners and their teachers
visited Pizza Pro as a part of
their study of the letter "Pp."
At the local eatery, the chil-
dren were allowed to make
their own pizzas, watch the
cooking process, and then
cut their pies.
The students and teach-
ers want to thank Sheila
Roach and Terry Balliew for
the special invitation and
for their assistance with the
making and cooking of the
children's treats. Ms.
Roach's son Caleb is a stu-
dent in the Pre-Kindergar-
ten class.

Fifth graders have com-
pleted the second part of the

AHS band to compete
in UIL concert contest
Members of the Albany High
School concert band will travel
to Wichita Falls on Thursday,
April 14 for the annual UIL con-
cert and sightreading competi-
tion.
The group, which includes the
high school musicians along with
eighth graders, will warm up at
4:00 p.m. and should be finished
with both portions of the contest
by 4:40 p.m.
Originally, the local band was
scheduled to perform at contest
in Anson on April 5, but because
of a major conflict with the dis-
trict tennis tournament, band
director John Stockdale opted to
redirect the band to the compe-
tition in Wichita Falls.
The director commented that
rehearsals for the contest are
progressing very well, with the
musicians preparing more diffi-
cult music than the past few
years because of more evenly
distributed instrumentation
among the larger group.
The Albany bands are also
preparing for a trip to Austin
and San Antonio later in the
semester. The group will per-
form at the Capitol on May 5,
then travel on to San Antonio
for Cinco de Mayo festivities.
Stockdale expects to take about
85 musicians on the trip, plus
several adult sponsors.
The annual spring concert will
probably take place in May.
Library Notes

u.
Have you read a new book
lately? Go to the library because
there are plenty of new books to
choose from and lots of old favor-
ites too. There have been some
changes in the library and it's a
nice place to go and see what's
there.
New to the shelves is Daniel
Silva's Prince of Fire, a spy
thriller Allen who finds himself
stalking an elusive master ter-
rorist.
Another book, March by
Geraldine Brooks is set during
Civil War times and is a novel
about the father in Louisa Mae
Alcott's Little Women. It tells of
family, love and marriage and
the power of war upon the mind
and heart of this father.
Another charming and funny
book is Making Waves by Cas-
sandra King. A 20-year-old in-
herits her aunt's house and
beauty shop and the story tells
how her recently crippled hus-
band begins to cope with the loss
