Class of '55 gathers for reunion
'' The Albany High School Class
of 1955 gathered October 15 for
its 50th reunion at the home of
cfassmate Velena Wright
Tucker. Of the original 40 gradu-
ates, 22 attended this reunion.
(Six graduating classmates are
deceased.)
Brunch, lunch, dinner and
much visiting and picture-tak-
ing were on the agenda. One of
the highlights of the day was
seeing three classmates' moth-
ers, Glendene Dillingham, Ruby
Yergin, and Gladys Holt, riding
through Albany streets in
Erankie Joe Woojdfin's "motor-
trike" which he built.
Reunion planners were Joyce
Smith Turner and Johnnie
Yergin Tucker. Decorations were
football jackets, cheerleading
gear, and even the foil-covered
cardboard crown worn by the
1954-55 homecoming queen,
Johnnie Yergin. Scrapbooks and
other memorabilia were pored
over and "remember when's"
were common. A 30-minute video
produced by communications
students from Southwestern
Adventist University, under the
supervision of Randy Yates, in-
cluded vintage photographs of
class members, Albany scenes
and greetings from Albany resi-
dents.
Special entertainment was
provided by Dale Boyett and
Bobby Wimberly. While the class
of '55 will never win any prizes
for their singing, that didn't stop
them from joining Dale and
Bobby, singing with gusto the
songs of their youth.
Special tribute was made to
deceased classmates with the
release of balloons as everyone
sang the school song. Those

Obituary
HESTON STEWART McBRIDE
Heston Stewart McBride, well
respected and well loved central
Texas rancher, passed away
October 20,2005. Born to Emory
and Audrey McBride Septem-
ber 24,1920 in May, Texas, he is
survived by his wife Carmen
McBride of Blanket; a daughter
Jane Martindale of Austin; three
sons, Heston S. (Bo) McBride Jr.
and wife Shayne of Burnet, Dan
McBride and wife Linda of Bur-
net, and Gerald (Geep) McBride
and wife Sharon of Albany.
His grandchildren are Heath
and Cassie McBride, Brandon,
Bryan and Jonathan McBride,
Heston III and Juston McBride,
Misty Dean, and Dane and Tho-
mas Martindale. Juston T.
McBride of Tulsa, Oklahoma,
his only sibling, survives him
also. His wife of 54 years, Jean
Wilson McBride died in 1998.
Heston and his brother Juston
took an interest in cattle in grade
school. At the age of 12 he ex-
hibited his first 4-H club steer.
This project was the beginning
of an interest that provided him
with a college education and a
lifelong career, which he loved
and was devoted to. In FFA,
Heston earned his Texas Lone
Star Farmer Award and was a
member of the State Livestock
Judging Team.
His next training came when
he enrolled at Texas A&M pay-
ing his way through college
working with the college beef
herd and in feeding and exhibit-
ing A&M show cattle. He was a
graduate of the 1942-43 "Com-
HESTON McBRIDE
panyA"class. Following gradu-
ation and before going oversees
for duty in the Army, Heston
was married to Jean Wilson,
daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Tom
Wilson of Sidney, Texas on
March 4, 1944. He spent the
next two years in active duty as
a First Lieutenant in Combat
Engineers stationed in the Eu-
ropean Theater with the 333rd
Combat Regiment.
When his tour of duty ended,
he became a Captain in the re-
serves and again took up his
interest in cattle on a ranch he
and his wife purchased in Blan-
ket, Brown County, where their
four children were born. He also
had ranching operations in Ll-
ano County, Texas from the early
1960's until 1999 when, after
Jean McBride's death, he re-
turned to Brown County. After
letter to the editor
— Glen Bartee remembered by friend —
Dear Editor:
It's October 1,; Fra just sit-
ting here thinking of my friend
Glen Bartee - of how we be-
came goodfriends and neigh-
bors. I remember in 1973 and
1974 living with my grand-
mother. Across the street lived
Jay Wood, next door to him
across the alley was Richard
Patterson and across the
Btreet on our side of the street
across the alley lived Glen
and hie mother, father and
brother.
What a great time in my
life to live in Albany, Texas. I
moved off, living here and
there. I finally came to Okla-
homa City in 1977. My Grand-
ma died in August of 1984.
When I think of Albany,
two people come to my mind -
Grandma and Glen Bartee. I
kept in touch with Glen once
or twice a year to chat and
find out how Albany was do-
ing.
He would invite me and
my wife and kids to the Fan-
dangle and would invite us to
stay with him, Shelly and
Branch without any hesita-
tion.
I still can't believe he's
gone. I miss our phone calls. I
miss my friend. There's not a
day that goes by that I don't
think of him.
It's been a year now since
Glen passed away and I have
some great and crazy memo-
ries of my friend and brother
Glen Bartee that I'll never
forget.
I miss you, Glen.
Your friend,
Jeff Cleveland
Don, Janet Vines Yeates and
B.F., P.L. Pippin, Olivia Salters
Reams, Dale Boyett and Nadine,
Whitby George and Bobby
Wimberly. Special guests were
Wanda Fox Anthony and daugh-
ters Penni Grammer and Trina
Fox.
Others guests included fam-
ily, friends and Albany High
School graduates.
The class plans to meet again
at next year's Homecoming as
they will be recognized with the
class of 1956. The Coming Home
King and Queen from the Class
of 1955 were elected during the
reunion and will be Betty Bond
Martin and Frankie Joe Wood-
fin.
his return to Blanket, he was
fortunate to meet and marry
Carmen Pearson on September
10,1999, with whom he enjoyed
traveling, gardening and antiqu-
ing for the last six years of his
life.
Heston was a member of the
church families of First Baptist
Churches of Blanket, Llano and
Tow, Texas. His professional
affiliations included a number
of national registries such as
American Hereford Association
and the American Maine-Anjou
Association. He had the honor
of breeding and showing numer-
ous champion show animals at
major livestock shows across the
U.S.
Heston inspired his children,
along with scores of other young-
sters, to pursue a competitive,
hard working and often reward-
ing career in the cattle/agricul-
ture industry. He mentored
many, gave generously of his
time and was respected widely
throughout his long life. We will
miss his genuine smile and his
hand always extended and ready
for a handshake.
Funeral services were held
Monday, October 24th at the
First Baptist Church in Blan-
ket. Graveside services and
burial followed in the afternoon
at Bluffton Cemetery in Llano
County.
Pallbearers were Heath Bran-
don, Bryan, Jonathan, Heston
III and Juston McBride, Dane
and Thomas Martindale and
Scott Rains.

Bulldogs win big over Rising Star
With the rushing of Ken-
neth Alexander and Jeffrey
Martinez, the Moran Bulldogs
rolled to a 61-46 win over the
Rising Star J V.
Alexander's passing was on
target Thursday night and
when the passing lane was
closed, the running lanes were
open. Beau,Scott and Jesse
Alexander caught touchdown
passes as well.
The offense for the Bull-
dogs were in sync Thursday
night. The defense played a
solid game as well. Kody
Gilmore and Matt Crow put a
rush on the Wildcat quarter-
back which kept him off bal-
ance. The first turnover came
when Nicolas Stewart rushed
the Wildcat quarterback caus-
ing him to throw an errant
pass which Jeffrey Martinez
intercepted.
Michael Sanders and
Henry Branham also kept the
receivers for the Wildcats in
check. "The offense played smart
but the defense came alive at
the right times during the game
and saved us," said Coach Black.
Moran will play its last
game of the season this Fri-
day night against the Rule JV
at Bulldog field.
The family of Floyd Midkiff
