Lion football team has com-
pleted two-a-day workouts and
is shaping into what would
appear to be a strong
contender for the 8-A district
championship, according to
head coach Mike Wheeler. The
team, which will start 13
returning lettermen, will scrim-
mage Cross Plains tomorrow
evening, Thursday, August 18,
at 6:00 p.m.
The Lions were recently
rated fourth in the state on the
Class A level by the Texas
Football Magazine. Wheeler
felt that "this is going to help
us a lot. We have always had
tradition and this gives the
boys something to shoot for."
He also commented that the
rating would help promote a
more positive attitude and give
the team extra self-confidence.
Starting quarterback Mike
Cotter, senior, heads up the
Lions after an impressive
season last year. Cotter, also
starting as defensive safety,
received both offensive and
defensive All-District honors
last year. Backup quarterback
players returning, a better
attitude, and a more balanced
and well-rounded group of
players.
Coach Mike Wheeler
Another strong point for this
year's team is the exceptional
group of backup team mem-
bers.
Admission to the scrimmage
is free of charge and an
introduction of players will
follow the game.
