The Texas Highway Department
has announced the beginning date
for construction on the 14.7 miles
of divided highway north Of Sem-
inole on U S. 62 and O. S. 385.
The Highway Department and
the contractor, Henry L. Stafford
of Lubbock, stated that the con-
struction will begin on or about
September 10. Stafford was a-
warded the contract last week in
Austin with a low bid of $520,144.-
25 on the project.
The project will consist of grad-
ing, structures, flexible base and
one course surface treatment 1'rOm
one-quarter mile north of Semi-
nole to one mile south of Sea-
graves.
Construction will consist of the
installation of a new roadway ad- j
jacent to the present highway, re-
sulting in a divided facility for
this primary highway artery.
Stafford announced that he plans
to begin work on the Seminole
end of the project and work to-
ward Seagraves.
Carl R. Hart, senior resident
engineer of the Highway Depart-
ment in Brownfield will be in
charge of the construction inspec-
tion. Hart explained that the road-
way would be open to traffic, and
that the inconvenience to the trav-
eling public will be held to a mini-
mum.
