Swisher Countys fiftiethannivcrsary was appropriately celebrated
with a twoday Golden Jubilee July 1718 and a contribution
to the observance was tho Golden Anniversary edition of
the Tulia Herald
The sevensection Issue of the Herald adequately presented
the continuing development of a thriving agricultural county in
the Panhandle which hardly more than a half century ago was
the haunt of Indians and the Buffalo
Tb history of the section which later became Swisher Coun
ty nnnttrf in honor of a Texas hero extends back Into the dim
past of < tbe sixteenth century when Coronado traversed that
plains country insearch of the seven dlies of Cibola Among the
early white settlers who introduced the cattle business into the
Panhandle was the late Charles Goodnight who is a figure In
Swisher Countys history The Herald also reminds that the first
newspaper the Staked Plains Messenger was published in Tulia
about a month before Swisher County was organized

Father Wagner gave his views
on the European situation as well
