steadily in Tulia and Swisher
county Sunday bringing moisture
to help the Winter wheat crop
Tho precipitation which was general
throughout the Texas Panhandle
and parts of New Mexico
and Oklahoma amounted to one

to 193 inches Although the rain
delayed tho gathering of some

relating to fire insurance cost it
is the patriotic duty of every citizen
of Texas to aid in the prevention
of fires

About 30 businessmen and potato
farmers met Tuesday night
in the county agents office to
hear n report from the potato
committee consisitng of Jim McConnell
Allen Heard A J Harris
and Marvin Carlile who made a
trip to Hereford Inst week to
study the potato industry and to
get information about the growing
of potatoes
The committeemen were very
much impressed with the potato
industry in Hereford and reported
that this industry had caused
business to boom in the neighboring
city
YAt a previous meeting of these
tfuslnessmen and farmers they
were presented by J W Chilton
a contract to aid in the promotion
of growing potatoes in this section
and the committee named
above was appointed to investigate
the terms of the contract At
Tuesday nights meeting the delegation
voted to reject the proposal
offered by Chilton and to
try to promote the growing of
potatoes in Swisher County without
tying up the farmers with any
kind of contract
The delegation will endeavor to
talk to all Tulia merchants and
try to sell them on the idea that
growing potatoes in Swisher county
will be an advantage to all
parties concerned including merchants
farmers and others
The Extension Service headed
by John Palmorc county agent
will begin a series of meetings in
all the rural communities in
Swisher county in the near future
where they will talk to the farmers
of this area about the growing
of potatoes and to try to sec

Plains Cotton Improvement and
Marketing Association have announced
a OneVariety Cotton Im
provement and Marketing Program
to be conducted in the South
Plains area this season
Ten thousand bales of one var
iety cotton produced in Hale
Floyd Swisher and Briscoe counties
will be shipped to domeste
and foreign mills under the provisions
of the program Palmore

The plan is designed primarily
for the purpose of advertising

cotton by making sales through
regular cotton firms to American
mills In the past most of the cotton
produced in this settion went
to foreign mills and because of
the International situation it Is
impossible to supply the old mar

and through this marketing program
it is planned that the American
mills will become acquainted
