Postmaster Barnett
Urges Early Mailing
Of Christmas Gifts
Postmaster Barnett said today,
'"Early mailing of till Christmas
cards and gifts is the biggest sin-
gle factor in getting all of the
mail delivered before Christmas."
The Postmaster urged special
care in preparing gift packages for
the mails. Make -sure that all ad-
dresses are legible and complete.
"If you have any articles of un-
usual size or bulk, better check
with the Post Office before attempt-
ing to mail them," the Postmaster
warns. The limits on size and
weight of packages varies, depend-
ing on where you mail your pack-
age.
When wrapping gifts for mail-
ing, it is always better to use cor-
rugated cartons, especially where
there are a number of various siz-
ed objects in the shipment. Use
plenty of wadded tissue or news-
paper for extra protection against
:;hcck, and securely wrap each
package or carton in heavy paper,
and then tie it with strong cord.
Pc sure to include an extra label
with your return address and the
recipients address inside the ear-
ten cr package before it is wrap-
ped.
Another good idea is to place a
piece of transparent cellophane
tape over the address portion of
the label on your package to pre-
vent defacing in transit, and al-
ways make sure to include the re-
f.i. icnt's full name, -treet address,
city, zrne and state.
"Remember these three rules,"
the Postmaster said, "Wrap secure-
ly, address correctly, and mail
early."

Rough Winfet
Forecast; Drivers
Urged To Take Care
"If all the amateur weather prog,
nosticators (made up of old-timers
newcomers, sinus sufferers and
those who play hunches) are cor-
rect—Texans are in for a rough
winter." So says J. 0. Musick, Gen-
eral Manager of the Texas Safety
Association.
"In fact," he continues, "many
expert weathermen also forecast
an unusually severe winter. One
thing for certain—winter will
bring numerous dangerous driving
days.
"And we can foretell, with cer-
tainty, that hundreds of Texans
will be killed or injured unless ex-
tra saffety precautions are taken."
To minimize traffic hazards, Mu-
sick listed" six tips with which
every motorist should concern him-
self.
1. Like a good Boy Scout—be
prepared. Winterize your car and
your driving habits at the' same
time. ~ ....
2. In addition to a thorough me-
chanical winterizing, check tires,
headlights and tail lights. Carry
chains and a shovel for emergen-
cies.
3. Make sure you can see. Keep
windshield and windows clear.
Check Windshield wiper blades and
replace if 'they do not do a good
job. Also make sure the heater
and defroster areitrgood working
condition.
4. When starring qufc#-get the
feel of the -road. If tn'TloWJt about
the road's iCy condition, test your
brakes occasionally to learn how
quickly you can stop,
5. Keep well behind the car ahead
(a good rule to follow in any kind
of weather) so as to give yourself
plenty of stopping distance.
6. To stop quickly, pump your
brakes in a series of quick appli-
cations. To slam on your brakes,
on icy roads, is to invite locked
wheels and an uncontrollable skid.
"Above all," iMusick concluded,
"take it. easy. Hang on to your
patience—and your life."
Mr. and Mrs. Milton Rowton and
children were in Waco over the
week end to attend the wedding
of Mrs. Rowton's nephew.
