Ralph Mclvers and Tommy Whit-
worth of Houston were guests of
Mi', and Mrs. M. K. Gerland for
several days. Mr. Whit,worth also
called on Mrs. Olivia Clapp of Col-
legeport while here as he was of-
ten a guest at the hotel operated
by Mr. Clapp in El Campo many
years ago.

Sharkelfes Schedule Cake, Pie Sale;
Boys Attend Meeting With New Coach

Dean Wilkes, who moved to Cay-
town, is visiting his aunt and uncle
here until Sunday. He says Bay-
town's "o.k."
The SHarkettes are having a
cake and pie sale Saturday, July
27, at Partain's Food Market. All
members of the drill team should
bring either one cake or two pies
for the sale. There w 11 be a meet-
ing a week from this Saturday at
the high school and every girl who
is interested l'n working with the
team this fall should be there. Or
else!
We heard that about 39 boys
attended the football meeting Mon-
day night. We certainly hope P.
H. S. has a good team this year.
Mary and Frances certainly have
dark tans. As Mary's skin gets
darker her hair gets lighter and
brighter.

Are Married June 30
St. Peter's Catholic Church in
Blessing on Sunday, June 30, at
8 o'clock in the morning, was the
scene of the marriage of Miss
Theresa Ann Havel to Donald Ig-
nac Shimek.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Havel, Sr.
of El Maton and the groom's par-
ents are Mr. and Mrs. Ignac J.
Sh.Vnek of Palacios.
Rev. V. J. Bily performed the
ccremony and celebrated the nup-
tial mass before an altar decorated
with two large baskets of white
zinnias and daisies. James Kosarek
and Buddy Lezak served as altar
boys. During the mass the choir
sang accompanied by Jerry Lezak,
oi'ganist.
The bride, given in marr/age by
he'.- father, wore a gown of white
nylon net and hand clipped Chan-
tilly lace over satin made with lontr
lace sleeves tapering to petal
points, a stand-up collar and tiny
covered button up the back of the
gown. Her full length skirt was
fashioned with nylon net and lace
ruffles in the back. Her veil of
nylon tulle illusion was caught to
a crown of seed pearls and she
carried a white prayer book over-
laid with a white orchid and ste-
phanotis.
Serving her sister as maid of
honor was Miss Margaret Havel,
Bridesmaids were Miss Evelyn Le-
zak and Misses Rosemarie and
Patpy Shimek, sisters of the groom
Flrwer girl was the groom's cou-
sin. Janette Eggemeyer, who wore
a white net dress over taffeta.
Albert J. Smaistrla of East
Bernard served as best man and
groomsmen were Henry Lee Havel
and Antnohy Jurek of El Maton,
Joe Henry Kolser of Victoria and
Norbert Eggemeyer of Palacios.
Ushers were Thomas J. Havel, Jr.
of Port Lavaca and Manford
Foster of Bay City. Paul Kocurek
of Palacios and Frank Havel of
Blessing were witnesses. Tommy
Kocurek of Palacios. nephew of
the groom, was the ring bearer.
The bride's mother wore a lav-
endar polished cotton spring dress
with black accessories and a pink
corsage.
The groom's mother was gowned
in a blue lace dress over taffeta
with white accessories and a pink
corsage.
Following the ceremony a dinner
was served at the National Hall
in El Maton. The baskets of flow-
ers from the church were carried

had a surprise birthday party for
him last Friday night. One of his
most unusual presents was a tele-
phone of his own! He was reaTTy
surprised and all the guests en-
joyed it.
Ann Cooper went to McKinney,
Texas. Tuesday.
Nona Christy had an accident
with a glass pie plate Monday even-
ing, cut her hand and had to have
four stitches in it. Compensation;
She can't wash dishes for at least.

corsage.
