FISHING—
(Continued From Page 1)
the missus and young son, casually
rode over to the cove on Sunday
morning, and in no time came back
with a seven pt und red. It seems
Red lost one a day or so before,
and was out for a duplicate. Red
was using rot! and reel when he
hocked the big red that got away,
taking leader, cork and all. Red
maneuvered around, followed the
cork, got a hand hold on it, but
all one "Red" got was the cork, the
other red got away. Anyone catch
a red about 10 pounds or less,
carrying an excess steel leader and
hook around?

The young folks have their day,
catching fish and going into busi-
ness, and earning awards. Tracy
Thompson and his brother Jimmy
have caught quite long stringers
of various species of pan fish, a
few small trout and flounder from
GPBC pier.
Patty and Jeanie Standley are
in the live crab business. Daddy-
(Searcy) was asked to bring home
trash fish for crab bait, and the
girls caught so many big crabs
along the pier, that a crab box
was necessary. Naturally daddy
got the carpenter work on that.
Patty had the misfortune to be-
come so excited she fell into the
crab box one day, a crab bit her
toe, bul that's just a minor casual-
ty when two young girls under ten
years of age go into the live crab
business.
Gene Cooper had to catch one
fish on a lure, no specific specie
required, to earn his fishing merit
badge in Scouting. Gene finally
caught his fish on Friday, the
fish croaked its congratulations.

Margaret Matthews, often call-
ed the "Gar Lady" due to catching
so many gars the past two years,
might be planning to change her
title to the "Stinging Lady." She
landed a 75-pound sting ray using
light trout rig fishing from a
private pier on East Bay last week.
Dorothy Bullington reports a
n/ce calcli from Half iMoon—trout,
reds and thr ee king mackerel about
three pounds each. (Sorry the
notes on this catch were mislaid).
A Bay City contractor had 60
speckled trout, all keepers, from
Jensen Point Saturday. Boyd Light
reports a good catch from Wells
Point, on Saturday. There were
also good reports from various
spots on Carancahua Bay.
So it goes, there are those who
bring them in, and those who leave
them behind, and those who stop,
look and wait but the fish just
don't cooperate.
The Robert Raplee family of
Nashville, Term., came back home
for their vacation. Dr. Bob plan-
ned to spend a lot of time around
the water. He and the family went
boat ridng in Bobby Lewis' boat.
They went water skiing one even-
ing, resulting in Dr. Bob being
rather stiff and sore the next
morning. Bobby helped him lim-
ber up with the good old fashion-
ed method of "swabbing the decksj'1
at the store. It may not have been
salt water that Dr. Bob was around
on this occasion, but it was water.
Allen Court reports; Joe Simp-
son Sr. of Ardmore, Okla., Joe Jr.
and family of Houston lished var-
ious reefs on the bay getting a
good supply of trout and six gaff-
top, all over two pounds. Bill Tea-
gue of Houston also had a good
catch to take home. Roy Herring-
ton on Houston fished three hours
at Shell Pile getting three reds
about four pounds each, three
trout, from three to four pounds
each.
