buck, but was unable to use the
meat as he needed a set of dent-
ures, which he figured were an
extravagance. Finally he decided to
make his own with fche raw ma-
terial on hand.
He extracted the teeth from the
deer, filed and round them until
they were the right size. He used a
plastic wood for the plate, molded
it around the roof of his mouth,
then fitted the teeth into place
with household cement. Next he
proceeded to cook the venison and
eat it with its own teeth!

Bill Littrell, ranch superintend-
ent at Philmont Scout Ranch, near
Cimarron, N. M., has a two year
old elk heifer that thinks she is a
Hereford. The she elk wandered
onto the ranch when a calf, and
the ranch hands gave up in time
trying to shoo her away, she would-
n't shoo! When the cows were mov-
ed to the mountains for the sum-
mer, the elk went along. She also
returned when the cows were
brought back for the winter.
When it came time for dippihg
the cattle, the elk had the time of
her life. She plunged into the tank,
and other cows followed. She
wasn't satisfied with one trip, but
made three, with cows following
her each time. Littrell says he
doesn't know how long she will re-
sist the call of the wild, but ih the
mean time she is being treated
like one of the cows.

Hunting tip: The clacking of
rifle shells in a pocket may scare
that buck. Tie cartridges with rub-
ber band, about five to bundle.
Makes for quieter stalking in the
woods.
