Dropout Problem Is
Ccuse For Concern
COLLEGE STATION — Three
million of the nation's young people
between the ages of 16 and 19
have become school dropouts.
Although this alarming number
is cause for concern, nevertheless,
the rate of dropout has decreased
frtoD 41 percent to 30 percent since
1950, says Patsy Reynolds, Exten-
sion Service specialist in family life
education..
The term dropout doesn't bring
-pleasant pictures to mind. Many
people often associate the collo-
«ju~ml term with juvenile delin-
quents. Yet the boy or girl who
becomes a dropout may be a nice
young person—just bewildered, un-
sure of himself and his goal in life,
Klie specialist says.
Many youngsters face the de-
cision of whether to leave school
or continue before they are old
«ncugh or experienced enough to
decide wisely. The process which
leads to a student leaving school
is a long one—and it is affected by
the student, his family and his
school.
"Youngsters need guidance and
encouragement from their families
and school officials. Many people
must sliare the blame for a school
dropout. We have made much prog-
ress in reducing the dropout rate
—but (SO percent is stll far too
Irigh," Miss Reynolds says.
While money to stay in school
will help curb dropouts in some
Instances, yet people who care
what happens to a youngster can
help even more, the Texas A&M
University specialist adds.

Houston Astros Are
Accepting Moil Orders
For Baseball Ducats
The Houston Astros are now
accepting mail orders for tickets
to the special pre-season weekend
series opening the fabulous Astro-
dome Stadium on April 9, 10 and
11, against the New York Yankees
and Baltimore Orioles, and the Na-
tional League opening game
against the Philadelphia Phillies
on April 12, it was announced by
Astro ticket manager, Dick Mc-
Dowell.
Fans may order tickets by send-
ing check or money order to Tick-
ets, Houston Astros, Box 1691,
Houston, Texas. Box seats are $3.50
and reserved seats are $2.50, the
same prices as last year, and fans
ordering by mail should enclose 25c
per order for mailing and handling.
Tickets for the Astros' five game
"out-of-this-world" series with the
Yankees and Orioles will originally
be sold on a strip basis with a
ticket to each of the five games in-
cluded in each strip. A strip of
box sea ttickets sells for $17.50
and reserved seat strips are $12.50.
The opening Monday night game,
April 12, will be sold on a single
game basis.
'"Most of the mail we have al-
ready received indicates that most
fans want to see each of the six
games as one big baseball week-
end," said McDowell. "We felt it
would be best to first take care of
those fans who wished to see all of
the games, therefore we came up
with the strip tickets similar to the
type that are sold for World Series
games."
The Astros launch the Astrodome
against the Yankees Friday night,
April 9, at 7:30 p.m. Two games
are scheduled for Saturday, April
10, one game against the Orioles at
1:30 p.m. and a night game with
the Yankees at 7:30 p.m. Sunday,
April 11, will conclude the special
series when the Astros meet the
Yanks at 1:30 p.m. and the Orioles
at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets will go on sale over the
counter in February.

How do structures for water con-

Structures for water control,

These structures when operating
