party given by their son and
daughter-in-law, Rev. and Mrs.
Jesse A. Legrg, at their home 124
Harrison Lane, Sunday afternoon.
A yellow and white motif was
used in the party appointments and
yellow daffodils and daisies pro-
vided the floral decor. The pretty
refreshment table, overlaid in a
handsome lace cloth, was decorated
with an arrangement of the chosen
blossoms and held the beautifully
embossed birthday cakes. The twin
confections, frosted in yellow and
white, wei-e topped with the nu-
merals of their respective age. One
held a figure GO and one a figure
70.
Cheese bits and cake were served
with fruit punch. Mrs. A1. B. Park-
er and Miss Laura Windsor assist-
ed in the hostess duties. Friends
called throughout the afternoon
and among the children present
were Ray Legg of Angleton, Mr.
and Mrs. Dan Legg and family of
Rockdale, Mitchell Moore of Rock-
dale, Mr. and Mrs. Parker and
family, Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Mearter
of Palacios and Mrs. Druejlla
Brown of Louise. All of the family
were present except the H. H.
Burghardt family of Austin.—

ENGAGEMENT—Mr. and Mrs.
B. J. Wesselman announce the
engagement of their daughter,
Patricia, to Charles Stanley
Briggs of Austin, Texas. Mr.
Briggs is the son of Mrs. Louis
Wilburn Briggs. The couple plan
a May wedding in St. Anthony's
Catholic Church of Palacios.
Mr. and Mrs. Willie Sorth of
Carancahua Club have had as their
guests the.r children Mr. and Mrs.
Gussie Sorth and family of Hillje,
Mr. and Mrs. E. Sorth and family
of Glen Flora and Mr. and Mrs.

ROUND-UP CLUB HAS HIGH POINT
GIRL AT ANNUAL COUNTY FAIR
The Round-Up 4-H Club had the
high po,nt girl of the 14th annual
Matagorda County Fair and Live-
stock Exposition. The club had a
total of 80 entries in the Girls' Ed-
ucational exhibits, 46 baked items
in the food division which received
18 blue ribbons, 17 red and 11
white. In the clothing division, out
of ,32 entries they received 19 blue
with four of these being best of
class, 11 red and two white. On
the educational booths, the ch'b re-
ceived a red award on the girls'
booth and a white on the boys'.
The list of classes and point win-
ners include: Divinity—-Peggy Mc-
Michiel, blue; Shanncn Miller, blue
and Verel Miller, red.
Fudge—Mary Dillard, blue; Lin-
da Dillard, red; Georgia Hurta,
blue; Peggy McMichic!, red and
Verel Miller, white
Coffee cake—Verel Miller, red.
Open class cookies — Georgia
Hurta, blue and Shannon Miller,
red.
Yeast rolls—Verel Miller, blue.

shown by Dannie Kubecka, Shan-
non Miller, Douglas Kubecka, Her-
bert Abraham, Donald Kubecka,
and Dickie Kubecka.
Prairie Center Home
Demonstration Club
The Prairie Center Home Dem-
onstration Club held its regular
meeting March 20 at the Prairie
Center club house with Mrs. F. M.
Jackson as hostess with the presi-
dent, Mrs. Frank Stallard, pre-
siding. There were 13 members
and one guest, Mrs. L. A. Rein,,
present. Roll call was answered
with a current event.
Eleven members were reported!
to have attended the council edu-
cational tour of the Imperial Sugar
Refinery at Sugarland, ..Thirty-
two members attended from all the
Matagorda County clubs.
Program chairman, Mrs. Roland
Florip gave a recipe and demon-
stration on the making of yeast
ceffee cake. Mrs. Floiip and Mrs.
Jackson then taught a woodcraft
with the members making baskets
and what-nots.
The meeting adjourned to -meet
at the home of Mrs. Joe Tanner
on April 3.
Delicious refreshments of coffee,
pound cake and the coffee cake
made in the demonstration were
served by the hostess.—Mrs. L. n.

IT'S A BOY
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Willis and 14
month old son, Stephen Lynn, wel-
comed their baby son and brother,
Donald James, who arrived March
14, weighing six pounds, 10 ounces
at the Nightingale Hospital in El
Campo.
Maternal grandparents are Mr.
and Mrs. R. N. Lundgren of Lawn-
dale, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs.
James P. Willis of Morehead City,
N. C., are the proud paternal
grandparents.
_Mr. and Mrs. Z. T. George and
children spent the week end in
Grandbury, Texas.
As an old timer we can re-
member when the only time we
had for coffee was about an hour
before daybreak and two hours
after sundown.
