Joanna Hendricks from Palacios
recently defeated Joan Armstrong
from Houston to win the Women's
Recreation Association's annual
Ping Pong Tournament at Sam
Houston State Teachers College in
Huntsville.
The scores for the final match
were 21-11; 16-21; and 21-15. Her
name will be placed on the WRA
Plaque under Women's Individual
Sport's Events.
Joanna is a senior physical cdu
cation major. She is president of
the Square Dance Club and a mem-
ber of the WRA. She is a 1952
graduate from Palacios High
School where she was active in
sports and the annual staff. Joanna
is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R.

Mrs. E, H. Abraham and Mrs.
Clarence Schicke were hostesses to
a baby shower Monday afternoon
honoring Mrs. Adolph Highberg's
little baby boy. The honor guest
received many pretty and useful
gifts. A large crowd attended the
shower and' an enjoyable time was
had. After the gifts were admired,
the hostesses served delicious re-
freshments consisting of coffee,
cold drinks and cookies.
Norbcrt Eggemeyer, Billy Stuh-
renberg, Leroy Hurta and John
Beard were in Rosenberg Saturday
to participate in the district elimi-
nation contest. Norbert took first
place in the tractor driving contest
and Billy, Leroy and John came out
the first team on Entomology.
These boys will go to A. & M. in
June to competc in the state con-
test.
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Elster and
children Rodney and' Patsy of Da-
mon visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ed-
win Stuhrenbcrg and family Sun-
day.
Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Frankson at-
tended the funeral of their brother-
in-law, Mr. Ford in Kopperl, Texas
last week. Our sympathy goes out
to Mrs. Ford and Laura in their
bereavement.
Mr. and Mrs. F. E, Appling of
El Campo were attending to busi-
ness here last Thursday.

reunion at Ganado Park Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Cap Kovar and
children of Louise were visitors in
the Jerome Kovar home Sunday,
Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Irwin of
Houston spent the week-end with
her brother, Martin Loff and fam-
ily. Other visitors in the Martin
Loff home were Mr. and Mrs. Jones
and Mr. and' Mrs. Rob Rogers and
Louise from Port Lavaca.
Mr. and Mrs. V. J. Kutach from
Wharton spent Sunday afternoon
with Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Kutach
and family.
Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Frankson
and Donald drove lip to Houston
Friday. Donald had a few X-rays
and a check up. Glad' to report that
Donald is still improving.
Mrs. Jerome Kovar and daugh-
ter Joan were in El Campo Friday
visiting Mrs. Kovar's father. They
went by Louise and brought Geral-
dine Kovar home for the week-end.

A proclamation for Palacios Cor-
rect Posture Week.
WHEREAS, the week of May 1
to 7, 1955 has been designated as
Texas Correct Posture Week by
the Chiropractic Public Health
Committee of Texas, and will be
observed throughout the State, and
WHEREAS, an enlightened
citizenry which cooperates with
the men of science who minister
to the people in pain and sickness
is the best foundation for a healthy
nation, and
WHEREAS, the Chiropractic
Public Health Committee of Texas
is sponsoring Texas Correct Pos-
ture Week from May 1 to 7, en-
deavoring to educate the public to
the value of proper posture and to
dewlop a national consciousness on
this important health problem, and
WHEREAS, proper posture,
especially when developed in young
people, is one of the greatest con-
tributing factors to good health,
physical endurance, working ef-
ficiency and good appearance.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, A. H.
PETERSEN, Mayor of Palacios,
Texas welcome the opportunity to
call upon the citizens of Palacios,
civic organizations, schools and
youth training organizations to co-
operate with the Chiropractic Pub-
lic Health Committee of Texas and
the local members of the profession
in an educational program to make
people aware of the value of cor-
rect posture and of its benefits to
our public health standards. I
especially hope that every boy and
girl will learn the habits of good
posture and participate in outdoor
activities which can do so mugh to
keep us an alert and healthy peo-
ple.
